A heroic effort out of the bullpen by Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan helps the Longhorns rally for a thrilling win that keeps their season alive. Kavan entered the game in the fifth inning with one out and one on and gave up just four hits and no runs with seven strikeouts as Texas forces a deciding game 3.
Middle 10: Texas 7, Clemson 5
It's the Longhorns' turn to get two on with no outs, and Kaydee Bennett scores Katie Stewart with a sacrifice fly into left field. Ashton Maloney follows with an infield single and Leighann Goode motors home from second. Texas has its lead after two runs and three hits; can Teagan Kavan cap a heroic night by getting the win?
End 9: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Clemson manages one hit but Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan has this game by the throat with four hits allowed, no runs and seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Middle 9: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Mia Scott hits a triple into centerfield with two outs, and Clemson intentionally walks Reese Atwood to get to Joley Mitchell. The strategy works with a short flyout to left field. We have a late-game pitcher's duel with the highest of stakes between Clemson's Brooke McCubbin and Texas' Teagan Kavan.
End 8: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Runners on second and third with no outs, and Teagan Kavan pulls a magic act to get three outs. And the final out comes against Alex Brown, the Tigers' dynamic leadoff hitter.
Middle 8: Texas 5, Clemson 5
The bottom of the Texas order goes down quietly against Clemson pitcher Brooke McCubbin, who has allowed four hits and two runs in four innings.
End 7: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Clemson's Julia Knowler tries to stretch a long leadoff single off the wall into a double, but Katie Stewart shows off her arm in left field and gets the out. Teagan Kavan handles the rest as we go to extra innings.
Middle 7: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Third baseman Alex Brown ends the inning for Texas with a nice 5-3 putout of Katie Stewart. Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan will try force extra innings.
End 6: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Five batters faced and five outs for Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan, who entered the game as the fourth Longhorn pitcher last inning and has settled things down. Will she have a chance for a win? We'll find out with Texas coming up.
Middle 6: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Two on and two out with Kayden Henry at the plate, and Clemson pitcher Brooke McCubbin gets the strikeout. Can Teagan Kavan stay hot?
End 5: Texas 5, Clemson 5
Freshman Macey Cintron blasts her 14th home run of the season over the centerfield wall to tie the game off Texas pitcher Citlaly Gutierrez. Neither team is blinking tonight. Teagan Kavan comes into the game as Mike White is playing all his cards, even the ace. She enters with one out and a runner on second and handles her business.
Middle 5: Texas 5, Clemson 4
Clemson pitcher Brooke McCubbin gets two quick outs but walks Mia Scott and gives up an infield single to Reese Atwood, who gets to second on a throwing error. With two on and two outs, Joley Mitchell hammers a 2-run double off the left-field wall. The drama keeps building here at McCombs.
End 4: Clemson 4, Texas 3
Texas pitcher Citlaly Gutierrez ends the inning by inducing a pop-up from Julia Knowler, but Clemson takes its first lead of the game. The pressure shifts to the Texas lineup as Brooke McCubbin takes over in the circle for Clemson.
Bottom 4: Clemson 4, Texas 3
The move to Sophia Simpson doesn't work. She throws eight balls and one strike and issues an RBI walk to Maddie Moore for Clemson's go-ahead run. Citlaly Gutierrez comes into the game with bases loaded and two outs.
Bottom 4: Texas 3, Clemson 3
With two on and no outs, Leighann Goode makes another brilliant play at short by robbing Taylor Pipkins of a hit, but the Tigers do tie the score on an infield RBI single from Jamison Brockenbrough. That's all for freshman Cambria Salmon, who gets a standing ovation after allowing just six hits and three runs (so far). The surprises continue for Texas coach Mike White; here comes seldom-used senior Sophia Simpson in relief with two on and two out.
Middle 4: Texas 3, Clemson 2
Reese Atwood has a towering shot that looked like a sure homer into left field go just foul. She shrugs and line-drives a homer into the fans on the catwalk behind the left-field wall. That solo shot left the park in a hurry. How will Mike White handle his pitching for the rest of the game?
End 3: Texas 2, Clemson 2

End 1: Texas 0, Clemson 0
The revamped defensive infield does good work that frame, with SS Leighann Goode and 2B Kaydee Bennett each getting an out. Clemson's Julia Knowler gets a 2-out single, but a strong inning from Texas freshman Cambria Salmon.
Middle 1: Texas 0, Clemson 0
Texas coach Mike White said his squad needed a fast start, but they don't get it. Ashton Maloney gets a leadoff single but that's it. A pop-up in foul territory by Reese Atwood ends the frame.
Texas lineup: Mike White shifts defense, surprises at starter
Texas coach Mike White is making some changes in this win-or-stay-home game for his Longhorns. As he hinted after last night's late game, he's moved Katie Stewart back to left field after she struggled at shortstop with three errors in the past four games. Leighann Goode moves from second base to shortstop, and Kaydee Bennett moves from left field back to second base. It's a defensive alignment that Texas used for most of the season; Goode has already played 45 games at SS this season, Bennett has started at 2B for 38 games, and Stewart started in left field for 31 games. Oh, and starting pitcher Cambria Salmon, the freshman, hasn't started since March 10.
