The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James for potential mortgage fraud linked to her real estate transactions. A grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia has reportedly issued subpoenas related to these allegations. James is now the first public official who previously investigated President Donald Trump to potentially face criminal charges.

Attorney Abbe Lowell claims the investigation is based on unfounded allegations. He asserted that the referral for criminal prosecution from Federal Housing Finance Authority Director Bill Pulte is politically motivated.

Lowell stated, "Look at the entire file of each event, the haste in which one document has one line filled out in error, and the clear fact that, with the exception of attending school, Attorney General James has only lived in Brooklyn, and the ‘criminal referral’ becomes three pages of stale, threadbare allegations with no reason to proceed other than they are ‘(b)ased on media reports’ and are the next salvo in President Trump’s revenge tour against Attorney General James."

James plans to cover potential legal expenses related to the investigation using a private legal defense fund and state funds. The move has drawn strong criticism from Republican lawmakers.

James added, "We just got a preliminary injunction just a few hours ago against the dismantling of HHS. We stood up against this administration when they wanted to dismantle NIH National Institute of Health at a time when individuals are trying to find a cure to cancer and Parkinson's disease and heart disease, we pray for former President Biden at this time."

James concluded, "We stood up against the dismantling of the Department of Education. So all of those funds are more hurt New Yorkers, and anything that's going to take away funds from New Yorkers is when you're going to have to have to have to deal with Letitia James."
