Nimbus Fish Hatchery to close visitor center, parking lot and fish ponds

The Nimbus Fish Hatchery in Gold River will close its visitor center, parking lot and fish ponds beginning July 1, officials announced Friday.

The closures are the result of “reductions in funding,” according to a social media post from the Nimbus Fish Hatchery.

Built in 1955, the hatchery is operated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to raise Chinook salmon and steelhead, which are later released into the American River.

Officials said they are working to reopen the facilities “as soon as possible.”
