British No 1 Jack Draper begins his campaign today, looking to take the next step in his career and establish himself as a real contender on the grass, though smooth-moving Argentine Sebastian Baez could prove a tricky first-round opponent. Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, sets off in pursuit of a 25th grand slam title against Alexandre Muller, with Jannik Sinner, the top seed, opening his proceedings against a fellow Italian in Luca Nardi.
Defending women’s champion Barbora Krejcikova has overcome an injury scare and will be first out on Centre Court, but there will be plenty of attention on her opponent, with Alexandra Eala proving her high potential in recent months having come through the Rafa Nadal Academy. French Open winner Coco Gauff takes on Dayana Yastremska – but third seed Jessica Pegula is already out after a shock defeat to Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and Britain’s Heather Watson was eliminated in three sets.
Yesterday, Carlos Alcaraz survived a mighty scare against veteran Fabio Fognini, while there were fewer frights for Emma Raducanu, through in straight sets after a battle of the Brits with youngster Mimi Xu on the hottest opening day of the tournament on record.

Jannik Sinner on serve early on
13:28 , Kieran Jackson*Sinner 2-2 Nardi
Sinner saw two break points come and go in Nardi’s opening service game but the underdog does well to hold firm.
Wimbledon day two live
13:27 , Alex PattleAlex de Minaur holds a two-set lead over Roberto Carballes Baena on Court 18, but the third frame will be decided by a tiebreak.
Will the 11th seed advance? Or will the underdog force a fourth set?
Game, set and match! Heather Watson ousted in first round
13:18 , Alex PattleHeather Watson is OUT of Wimbledon in the very first round.
The Briton led Clara Tauson by a set to love, but the Dane rallied to turn the match on its head.
Tauson emerges a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 winner on Court 12.
Jannik Sinner holds serve to start

With a thumping forehand drive volley, Sinner holds to 15 against Italian compatriot Luca Nardi.

Heather Watson in dire situation against Clara Tauson

13:02 , Alex PattleA spot of bother for last year’s underdog semi-finalist Lorenzo Musetti...
The Italian, seeded seventh in the men’s draw, just dropped the first set 6-2 against Nikoloz Basilashvili.
Elsewhere, Musetti’s compatriot and fellow Lorenzo, Mr Sonego, gets it done in straight sets against Jaime Faria: 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Britain's Johannus Monday eliminated by Tommy Paul
12:57 , Alex PattleNo fairytale run for Johannus Monday; the Briton is dumped out in round one, suffering a straight-sets loss to Tommy Paul.
No shame in losing to the 13th seed, though. Paul emerges a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 winner.

12:42 , Alex PattleAlex de Minaur is cruising on Court 18. The No 11 men’s seed has taken the second set 6-2 against Roberto Carballes Baena, after achieving the same scoreline in the opening frame.
Meanwhile, Ekaterina Alexandrova – the women’s 18th seed – has booked her place in round two. She overcame Priscilla Hon 6-2, 7-5 on Court 17.

12:35Things aren’t going well for Britain’s Johannus Monday on Court 3.
The 23-year-old is 4-6, 4-6 down against the 13th men’s seed, Tommy Paul, who has also just secured a break to go 2-1 up in the third set.
Heather Watson drops second set as Clara Tauson tie goes the distance
12:28 , Alex PattleHeather Watson holds serve over on Court 12, forcing Clara Tauson to serve for the second set. Tauson leads 5-4 in the frame, with Watson having won the opener 6-2.
And within a few minutes, Tauson wraps up the set! A comfortable hold of serve for the Dane.
This first-round tie will go the distance.

12:18 , Harry Latham-CoyleJessica Pegula does have a bit of strapping on her left knee but even so, that’s a pretty big shock. The American hasn’t always had the best time of things on grass but looked to have put that behind her in Germany last week, beating Iga Swiatek impressively in the final. Her 2025 Wimbledon singles campaign is, however, at an abrupt end.
Heather Watson is staying in the battle against Clara Tauson in the second set, though the Dane does still have the advantage of a break as she looks to draw level in the match. It’s 4-3 on Court 12.
Third seed Jessica Pegula stunned in first round!
12:11 , Harry Latham-CoyleWhat an upset! The third seed Jessica Pegula is OUT of Wimbledon! Winner of the Bad Homburg Open at the weekend, but the American couldn’t get her game going at all and tumbles to an uber-impressive performance from Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2, 6-3.

Jessica Pegula on her way out of Wimbledon?
12:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleMore strife for Jessica Pegula - Elisabetta Cocciaretto is two games away from the second round after breaking again in the second set! It’s 4-3 with the balls in the hand of the Italian. Well well well.

12:01 , Harry Latham-CoyleA scorching cross-court forehand passing shot from Heather Watson is simply too good for Clara Tauson, but a booming ace that claps into the back wall beyond the beaten Brit ensures she consolidates her lead once more.

11:58 , Harry Latham-CoyleA hold apiece after that Clara Tauson break leaves the Dane just in front at 2-1 in the second.
Over on Court 2, Jessica Pegula remains in a predicament, unable to force anything against Elisabetta Cocciaretto through six games. She needs to take the second set to remain in the tournament.
Clara Tauson breaks
11:49 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe long break is followed by, well, a break - whatever Clara Tauson was doing in between sets seems to have worked, though Heather Watson’s failure to land a first serve does give her something of a helping hand. Will that be the foothold the powerful Dane needs?
Wimbledon day two live
11:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleA bit of a worry as Clara Tauson disappears for some time between sets. Heather Watson is out on court and ready to serve - still we wait, though, for the Dane to re-emerge.
Eventually, here she comes. Let us hope that all is ok - you don’t want to be struggling with an ailment or injury in these conditions.
Tommy Paul has taken out the first set 6-4 against Johannus Monday.
Jessica Pegula falls behind
11:40 , Harry Latham-CoyleNow then. A grass-court winner for the first time on Saturday, out of Wimbledon on Tuesday? It’s a real stumble out of the blocks from Jessica Pegula, tipped by some as a possible contender after that Bad Homburg Open win but already a set behind to Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who is serving superbly.

Heather Watson races to first set!
11:39 , Harry Latham-CoyleOoh, this is some showing so far from Heather Watson. Broken early in the set, Watson reels off five straight games to snare it 6-2, with her return game particularly impressive. 23rd seed Clara Tauson is in a spot of real bother.

Wimbledon day two live
11:32 , Harry Latham-CoyleAnother Brit keeping their cool is Katie Boulter, peering out from under an umbrella as she watches partner Alex de Minaur play Roberto Carballes Baena over on Court 18. After beating Spanish opposition yesterday in fine fashion, Boulter will be hoping her fiancé can do likewise.
De Minaur is a tricky player to figure out, seemingly always on the cusp of a breakthrough run at the majors but almost invariably finding himself out in the quarter-finals. A breach of Carballes Baena’s serve in game five represents a strong start.
Meanwhile, a break for Heather Watson, really starting to attack the serve of Clara Tauson and nudging her nose very much in front.

Wimbledon day two live
11:27 , Harry Latham-CoyleSome good hitting from Heather Watson as she holds for the third time with her match against Clara Tauson all on serve five games in. Watson has a towel filled with ice draped around her neck at the change of ends - it’s that sort of day.
Monday, Tuesday, happy days?
11:19 , Harry Latham-CoyleAnother of the Brits out on court early on Tuesday is the inappropriately named Johannus Monday. All of 6-foot-6, the southpaw could prove tricky opposition for 13th seed Tommy Paul, who has been to the last eight of both grand slams so far this year. Monday, from Hull, has had a good 12 months, taking out five World Tennis Tour titles and now making his major main draw debut. It’s 1-apiece in the early going.

Will Heather Watson keep the Brits bouncing?
11:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleHeather Watson is up first on Court 12, though faces a tough test against Clara Tauson if she is to join the seven Brits already through to round two. In fact, there’ll be plenty of home interest on that court this morning: Dan Evans faces compatriot Jay Clarke at the conclusion of Watson’s efforts.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard slams fastest serve in Wimbledon history
10:55 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe so-called “servebots” can be criticised during the grass-court swing, a fast and flat surface lending itself to those power-players who can slam the ball down at serious speed. There is more to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard’s game than simply serving but the Frenchman really is something to watch with ball in hand - his 153mph serve against Taylor Fritz last night was a record for Wimbledon.
That match is intriguingly poised. The Frenchman looked set to dump out the fifth seed when he took a commanding lead in the fourth-set tie-break, but Fritz battled back to force a decider. You can understand why Mpetshi Perricard did not want the match to continue last night - refreshed and ready for a few more aces, they’ll go again at the conclusion of Jannik Sinner’s encounter with Luca Nardi on Court 1.
Coming up this morning...
10:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe fortunes of Jessica Pegula could be intriguing to follow over the next fortnight, the American slightly incongruous at third in the world rankings without a grand slam title to her name. The 31-year-old doesn’t have a great record here, reaching only a single quarter-final so far, but has begun to find her footing on grass and beat Iga Swiatek in straight sets at the Bad Homburg Open on Saturday to secure her first title on the surface.
Can she go deep this year? Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who she beat on her way to the last eight in 2023, is her opening opponent from 11am BST on Court No 2.

Uniformed protesters criticise introduction of AI line calls at Wimbledon
10:30 , Harry Latham-CoyleA pair of students dressed as line judges have staged a protest outside Wimbledon in response to the decision to replace human officials with artificial intelligence (AI) at the tennis tournament.
Gabriel Paul, 26, from Battersea, and Harry Robson, 27, from Marlow, stood outside the All England Club in south-west London holding placards reading “AI took my job” and “Don’t sideline humans”.
The men, who are graduating this summer, said they wanted to highlight the wider impact of AI on employment and the role of people in sport.
Taylor Fritz blames opponent for Wimbledon curfew controversy after match suspended
10:15 , Luke BakerTaylor Fritz has explained the controversy around the decision to suspend his first-round match at Wimbledon and has put the responsibility at the feet of his opponent.
Fifth seed Fritz, who successfully defended his Eastbourne title a couple of days before the start of Wimbledon, was locked at two sets apiece with big-serving Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Monday evening when the decision was taken to suspend the clash and play to a conclusion on Tuesday.
Wimbledon’s famous curfew means that players must be off court by a hard deadline of 11pm although the fact that it was 10.18pm when this Court 1 clash was pulled off highlights the grey area that often exists around these decisions.
Sue Barker on Jack Draper’s transformation, her kinship with Emma Raducanu and returning to Wimbledon
10:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleShe may no longer be part of the BBC’s team, but Sue Barker will be watching all of the action eagerly over the next fortnight. Ahead of the tournament, Flo Clifford sat down with a player and broadcaster who still hasn’t lost her love for Wimbledon:
Why these underdogs can stun Wimbledon’s biggest stars once again
09:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleCoco Gauff and Iga Swiatek begin their campaigns today after Aryna Sabalenka started strongly yesterday. But the Wimbledon women’s draw is rarely straightforward for the seeds, as Flo Clifford explores...
Why Wimbledon is desperate for top billing in the Alcaraz-Sinner arms race
09:30 , Harry Latham-CoyleAlso underway a little later will be Jannik Sinner, who will be hoping for a smoother start to proceedings than that endured by great rival Carlos Alcaraz. The pair’s contrasts really do enrich their contests, and Wimbledon may very much be hoping to see the pair on a collision course for Sunday week for another final humdinger, as Kieran Jackson writes:
When is Jack Draper playing his first round match at Wimbledon?
09:15 , Harry Latham-CoyleJack Draper is the highest ranked British seed on the Wimbledon grass since Andy Murray in 2017 - can the leftie go deep on a surface he knows well? He’ll be in action later today on Court 1.
Wimbledon 2025: Men’s and Women’s seeds list and tracker
09:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleIn fact, a fair few of the top players in the draw have already been toppled. Need to follow the fortunes of the favourites throughout the next fortnight? Flo Clifford’s handy seed tracker has you covered:
Daniil Medvedev smashes racquets as he crashes out of Wimbledon in first round
08:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe heat was all a little too much for Daniil Medvedev as he became one of the first seeds to fall at this year’s Wimbledon...
Wimbledon set to be scorchio again
08:35 , Harry Latham-CoyleTemperatures soared into the 30s in SW19 yesterday, and it might be even hotter today - the mercury could hit 33 or 34 degrees, making staying cool key for players and spectators alike.
‘Dangerous’ Wimbledon spectator removed after Yulia Putintseva reports ‘crazy’ behaviour
08:25 , Harry Latham-CoyleHere, though, is a rather more worrying story: the All England Club has confirmed a spectator was “dealt with” after Yulia Putintseva complained of “dangerous” and “crazy” behaviour during her defeat to Amanda Anisimova.
British players make history on magical Monday at Wimbledon
08:15 , Harry Latham-CoyleIndeed, it was an excellent all around for home hopes, with seven (!) Brits through, including upsets from Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal.
Emma Raducanu books spot in Wimbledon second round with routine win over Mimi Xu
08:05 , Harry Latham-CoyleThings were rather smoother for Emma Raducanu, though, coming through a battle of British players against Mimi Xu, whose time will surely come. Flo Clifford assesses how Raducanu reached the second round:
Carlos Alcaraz stutters to opening Wimbledon win in five-set epic against Fabio Fognini
07:55 , Harry Latham-CoyleLet’s begin this morning by looking back at yesterday’s action - and Kieran Jackson was on Centre Court to watch Carlos Alcaraz survive an almighty fright against Fabio Fognini. The French Open champion is never dull...
Wimbledon 2025 order of play: Day 2 schedule and results with Draper and Djokovic in action
07:45 , Harry Latham-CoylePlenty of action around the courts today, including a couple of matches carried over from last night as the dark denied Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz, who is into a fifth set against dangerous server Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the chance to press for victory. Here’s the order of play for your perusal.
Wimbledon day two live
07:40 , Harry Latham-CoyleA very good morning and welcome to our live coverage of day two at Wimbledon - and we’ve another scorcher in store. After record-breaking temperatures yesterday, the summer swelter continues, which could produce yet more unpredictable action as a number of top seeds in both singles draws get their campaigns underway.
We’ll have all of the latest throughout Tuesday.
