It’s day three at Wimbledon 2025 and a packed schedule awaits, with a raft of British players in action including Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter, as well as Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka and a host of other big names.

The first Britons on court today are Sonay Kartal, facing Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova, and Billy Harris, up against Portuguese No 1 Nuno Borges. British qualifier Oliver Tarvet faces Alcaraz in the match of his life on Centre Court, while Cameron Norrie takes on American Frances Tiafoe on Court One. Raducanu meanwhile faces a huge test against the former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

Yesterday Jack Draper cruised through to the second round, but Heather Watson and Jodie Burrage were early casualties among the home prospects. There were more dramatic exits in the women’s draw, however, when third seed Jessica Pegula and fifth seed Zheng Qinwen were eliminated, before French Open champion Coco Gauff lost to Dayana Yastremska in the final match on Court One.

The men’s No 3 seed Alexander Zverev suffered a shock defeat to France’s Arthur Rinderknech but top seed Jannik Sinner swept past Italian Luca Nardi. Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic saw off the stout challenge of Alexandre Muller to make his way into the next round, crediting “miracle pills” for his turnaround.

Rain delay extended

Bad news for the outside courts... play will not begin until 12.15pm BST at least.

There’s an intrepid crowd braving the rain on Court 3 and setting up for the day’s action, but they’ll be waiting a while longer for Sonay Kartal to come out.

Which British tennis players are still playing at Wimbledon?

11:25 , Flo Clifford

As is always the case when Wimbledon rolls around, British fans have their eyes on the home favourites bidding for glory in London.

Andy Murray ended a 77-year wait for a home champion at the grass-court grand slam in 2013, before replicating his triumph in 2016, but there have been no British winners in the singles draw since – on either the men’s or women’s side.

Still, day one saw a record seven Britons advance this year, but how are the home crop faring now?

Rain delays start of play

11:16 , Flo Clifford

Thanks to the roof on Centre Court and Court 1, any inhospitable weather will not delay play over on the main show courts.

Cameron Norrie is first up on Court 1 against 12th seed Frances Tiafoe, starting at 1pm, while world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka opens play against Marie Bouzkova at 1.30pm on Centre.

Rain delays start of play

After a blistering heatwave on day one and two of Wimbledon, we’re back to more traditional British summer weather.

Rain has delayed the start of play on the outside courts until at least 11.45am.

That means Sonay Kartal has a longer wait for she kicks proceedings off against Viktoriya Tomova on Court 3.

A packed day is about to kick off on the outside courts, with play beginning on Court One at 1pm and Centre Court at 1.30pm.

Monday's record-breaking seven British winners all return to the court on Wednesday looking to reach the third round.

Emma Raducanu faces a tough test against 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova in the prime time slot on Centre Court, while British number two Katie Boulter and number three Sonay Kartal both take on unseeded opponents after headline-grabbing first-round wins.

Qualifier Oliver Tarvet has the most eye-catching match against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, while Cameron Norrie will play 12th seed Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Fery and Billy Harris face Italian Luciano Darderi and Portugal's Nuno Borges respectively.

Zverev feels ‘alone’ and ‘empty’ after shock first-round exit

10:43 , Lawrence Ostlere

“It’s more mental, probably, I feel very alone out there at times, I struggle mentally, after the Australian Open, I don’t know,” said Zverev. “Trying to find ways to get out of this hole, but I keep finding myself back in it. I don’t know, I feel generally speaking quite alone in life, it’s not a nice feeling.

“Maybe for the first time in my life I’ll probably need it.

“I’ve been through a lot of difficulties. I’ve been through a lot of difficulties in the media. I’ve been through a lot of difficulties in life generally.

“I’ve never felt this empty before. Just lacking joy, just lacking joy in everything that I do. It’s not necessarily about tennis. Just lacking joy outside of tennis, as well.”

Zverev feels ‘alone’ and ‘empty’ after shock first-round exit

10:39 , Lawrence Ostlere

World No 3 Alexander Zverev admits he feels “alone” and “empty” after his shock first-round exit at Wimbledon to Arthur Rinderknech.

The German was one of the biggest casualties added to the seeds scrapheap, falling to the Frenchman after a two-day, five-set marathon.

The three-time grand slam finalist, beaten 7-6 (3) 6-7 (8) 6-3 6-7 (5) 6-4, opened up about his mental health and revealed he will now consider therapy after struggles on and off the court since reaching the final of the Australian Open this year, losing to Jannik Sinner.

The 28-year-old – who has faced allegations of domestic abuse in the past which were unproven and which he has always denied – intends to seek help in the coming weeks.

Gauff shocked by Yastremska on Court One

10:34 , Lawrence Ostlere

“This court brings me a lot of nice memories,” Yastremska, 25, said afterwards. “I played junior finals here, it gave me a lot of emotion.

“It was a great match today, I was really on fire. Playing against Coco, it is something special. She’s a great player, great person, we have a very good relationship, I enjoyed it a lot.

“This court is made for the greatest players, so I’m so happy to be on this court.”

In a match originally scheduled for Centre Court but moved to under the roof on Court 1, Yastremska played the match of her life and eliminated the French Open champion and world No 2 via a 7-6, 6-1 scoreline.

Gauff looked aghast throughout the match, looking at her player box in disbelief, as the world No 42 hit winner after winner in a stunning performance across 78 minutes.

Djokovic credits 'miracle pills' for turnaround

The Serb was asked whether he thought about retiring from the match when the stomach bug was at its worst but claimed that wasn’t an option.

He added: “I honestly wasn’t thinking about that [retiring from the match] or taking that as an option. I knew that something is off with the stomach so hopefully when that came down the energy will come back - and that’s what happened.

“Credit to Alex [Muller} for playing some really good tennis. He fought in the second set and deserves a round of applause for the battle.”

Djokovic credits 'miracle pills' for turnaround

10:19 , Lawrence Ostlere

"It’s great to be back in Wimbledon and obviously I have to say that first and acknowledge the sacredness of this court,” Djokovic began.

“This tournament has always meant a lot to me and to many other players, it’s a childhood dream so I never take stepping out on this court for granted. I enjoyed myself, obviously a bit less in the second set but I went from feeling my absolute best for a set and a half to my absolute worst for about 45 minutes, whether it was a stomach bug, I don’t know what it is.

"I struggled with that but the energy kicked back after some doctor’s miracle pills and I managed to finish the match on a good note.”

Djokovic credits 'miracle pills' for turnaround

10:15 , Lawrence Ostlere

Novak Djokovic admitted to feeling his ‘absolute worst’ on court until the doctor’s ‘miracle pills’ restored eased a stomach issue and helped him fight past Alexandre Muller in four sets.

The first round clash was delicately poised at one set each when Djokovic asked for the doctor following the third game of the third set.

Muller had just taken a 2-1 lead with the set on serve when Djokovic explained an issue he was having in his stomach. The Serb attempted to stretch out his stomach muscles and ease some slight swelling when he was given the tablets by the medical professional.

It took a while for them to kick in but once they did Djokovic flew through the rest of the set, and quickly swept through the fourth to clinch a 6-1 6-7 6-2 6-2 victory and a place in the second round.

There are a couple of British players on Court One today, too. Cameron Norrie – a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2022 – faces American 12th seed Frances Tiafoe in a tough test, before British No 2 Katie Boulter meets Argentina’s Solana Sierra.

The day is rounded off with USA v Canada as fifth seed Taylor Fritz faces Canada’s Gabriel Diallo. I spoke with a member of Diallo’s coaching team this week and they have high hopes for the 23-year-old on the back of a breakout year, in which he won on grass at ‘s-Hertogenbosch last month.

Today’s Centre Court action kicks off with world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who is looking increasingly prominent in the women’s draw after a number of high seeds were knocked out yesterday, not least her French Open final conquerer Coco Gauff.

Then comes perhaps the most highly anticipated match of the day, as British qualifier Oliver Tarvet meets the great Carlos Alcaraz. Can the 21-year-old university student pull off a mircale win?

Emma Raducanu wraps up proceedings on Centre against 2023 Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova: two one-time grand-slam champions looking to recapture their very best form.
