After Los Angeles protests escalated into violent riots, damages have reportedly amounted to more than $30 million. Seven House Democrats have joined Republicans to pass a resolution condemning riots linked to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Young Kim (R-CA), passed 215-195. Many House Democrats, including Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have preferred calling the events “unrest” rather than riots.

Raskin criticized the resolution praising law enforcement and condemning violence, saying it unfairly targets immigration policies. The resolution thanks ICE for its public safety role but faces Democratic backlash.

House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) opposed the resolution, calling it “partisan political posturing.” The division has revealed deep congressional splits over immigration and law enforcement.
