Milwaukee Brewers Get 2nd NL All-Star After Freddy Peralta Announcement

Over the weekend, it was announced the Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta had been named to the National League All-Star team for the second time in his career. He followed that up with a stellar performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, tossing six shoutout innings while striking out seven.

On the season, the longest-tenured Brewer (along with Brandon Woodruff) is 10-4 with a 2.74 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 105.0 innings pitched. His 10 wins are the most in the National League and his 19 starts lead all of Major League Baseball.

That being said, fans that were looking forward to Peralta toeing the rubber in the All-Star Game will not get the chance to see him. Because the Brewers plan to have him start their first game after the All-Star break, he will not be available for the Midsummer Classic.

But another Brewers pitcher will.

After the Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, completing their first ever home sweep of the franchise, on Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that closer Trevor Megill had been named to the NL All-Star roster since Peralta will not be available to pitch:

On Wednesday, in the Brewers’ sweep-clinching victory, Megill picked up the win by throwing a scoreless tenth inning and striking out all three batter he faced. He is now 2-2 with a 2.41 ERA to go with 21 saves.

What is so significant about Megill being named to the NL All-Star team is that, now, each of the last six pitchers to lead the Brewers in saves (dating back to 2014) have been named All-Stars while with the team.

The list of these players includes Jeremy Jeffress, Francisco Rodriguez, Corey Knebel, Josh Hader, Devin Williams, and now Megill.
