It has been a busy last few days for former Milwaukee Brewers first basemen. Unfortunately, not all of the news surrounding them was positive as Rowdy Tellez, who was the team’s Opening Day starter at first base in 2022 and 2023, was designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners. Keston Hiura, who also was tried out as an Opening Day first baseman by Milwaukee, was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies.
Luke Voit, who played for the Brewers for part of the 2023 season, recently signed with the Nippon Professional Baseball league after spending the season up to this point playing in Mexico.
But one former Brewers first baseman, Jon Singleton, got some good news as he is returning to an organization that he knows very well.

According to a report by MLB Trade Rumors, Singleton has signed a minor league deal to return to the Houston Astros. It will his third stint with the organization, the last of which came last season:
“The Astros have reunited with first baseman Jon Singleton on a minor league contract, The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports. Singleton had been a free agent since the Mets released him from a previous minors deal earlier this week.”
As the report notes, Singleton was released from his minor league deal with the New York Mets late last week. He had been hitting .213/.353/.448 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI for New York’s Triple-A team.
Last year, Singleton played in 119 games for the Astros, hitting .234/.321/.386 with 13 home runs and 42 RBI.
His stint with the Brewers in 2023 marked the first time he appeared in a Major League game since the 2015 season. In 11 games with Milwaukee, he hit .103/.188/.138 with two RBI. He had previously spent many years in the minor leagues, but also served a 100-game suspension and dealt with substance abuse during that time.
After being released by the Brewers in 2023, Singleton returned to Houston where he hit .194/.301/.323 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 25 games.
He had previously been a part of the Astros organization from 2011-2017.
