Milwaukee Brewers Expected to Lose Reliever with 2.41 Career ERA to Free Agency This Week

The Milwaukee Brewers are 56-40 at the MLB All-Star Break, which is a great accomplishment considering the team started the year 0-4. What is even more astonishing is that the Brewers have constructed one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball after their rough start was the result of numerous starters and relievers either performing below expectations or getting hurt.

But, as it stands, the starting rotation headlined by All-Stars Freddy Peralta and Jacob Misiorowski, is arguably the best one-through-five staff in the Majors. Additionally, the bullpen, anchored by All-Star closer Trevor Megill, locks down opposing hitters late in games more often than not.

Due to the great success their pitchers have seen on the Big League level, it has been hard for others in the system to get opportunities. And one may be looking elsewhere as soon as Tuesday.

Vinny Nittoli Is Expected to Opt Out of His Contract with the Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers Expected to Lose Reliever with 2.41 Career ERA to Free Agency This Week 1

According to a report by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, Vinny Nittoli, who is currently pitching for the Nashville Sounds, Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate, is expected to opt out of his minor league contract with the organization on Tuesday.

“Reliever Vinny Nittoli plans to trigger the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Brewers, reports Ari Alexander of KPRC-2. The actual opt-out date is tomorrow and will give the Brewers 24 hours to add Nittoli to the big league roster, MLBTR has learned. If the Brewers choose not to select Nittoli to the roster, he’ll become a free agent.”

Nittoli is currently 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 26 games for the Sounds this season. He had previously signed with the Brewers last October.

A journeyman reliever, Nittoli has appeared in 15 Major League games, making stops with the Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Athletics, and Baltimore Orioles. In these 15 games, he is 0-1 with a 2.41 ERA.

Nittoli has also spent time in the farm systems of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, and Chicago Cubs.

In nine minor league seasons, he is 21-24 with a 4.35 ERA.
