What is the Type 75 MLRS?

The Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed a weird North Korean weapon on the front, and reports indicated it was the very first time this particular weapon had been eliminated.
Attacked by the Burevii Brigade

According to a report from the Ukrainian military news website Militarnyi, the Ukrainian 1st Presidential Operations Brigade, which is also known as the Burevii Brigade, struck a Type 75 Multiple Launcher Rocket System.

Meet the Type 75 MLRS

The North Korean Type 75 Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MLRS) is a rather weird weapon to find on the battlefield in Ukraine, mostly because of its age and odd design.
A copy of a copied weapon

United24 noted the North Korean Type 75 MLRS is a 107 mm rocket system based on the Chinese 12-tube Type 63, which was a copy of the old Soviet-era BM-14. However, the old North Korean Type 75 still packs quite a punch.

What can the Type 75 do?

Capable of firing a 12-rocket salvo, the Type 75 MLRS has a range of 8.5 km (5.28 mi), and is relatively lightweight and easy to transport, even if it is considered outdated.
Not a self-propelled system

The Type 75 MLRS isn’t self-propelled, but the war in Ukraine has seen these systems fitted to Russia’s ‘Varan’ robotic platforms, according to a report from Defense Express.
The Type 75 is usually towed

Militarnyi noted that some Type 75 MLRS models can be towed or attached to vehicles, which allows for 16, 24, and 27 tubes to be added, especially on the ship-based versions.

Video footage of the attack

Video footage posted on Telegram by the 1st Presidential Operations Brigade showed that the Type 75 MLRS destroyed by the brigade wasn’t on any type of platform, robotic or otherwise, though some have been added to the backs of military trucks.
