What did Ukraine knock out now?

Ukrainian soldiers operating on the frontlines of the war destroyed a very interesting North Korean weapon, according to a report on social media from the commander of the unit that knocked out the strange system.
A Type 75 MLRS was destroyed

Soldiers from the Ukrainian 429th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems, who are more commonly known by their unit nickname Achilles, destroyed a North Korean-made Type 75 multiple launch rocket system (MLRS).

Details and video evidence were provided

Details about the strike were published on the Achilles commander's Telegram channel alongside footage of the attack, which was carried out using fiber-optic guided first-person view drones. It was not noted if the Type 75 system was being fielded by Russian or North Korean troops.

What the footage of the attack revealed

The Ukrainian military news website Militarnyi reported that the drone seen in the video hit the system's rocket guide tubes directly. The outlet added that at least four of the tubes were loaded when they were hit.

One rocket launched when the drone hit

“One of the missiles was seen leaving the launcher following the impact, which triggered a detonation,” Militarnyi explained. The system appeared to have been destroyed by the attack in the video. However, that had not been independently verified.

Not the first time a Type 75 was destroyed

The Telegram channel ‘War Archive’ geo-located the attack to a position near the village of Lyman Pershyi in Kharkiv Oblast. Militarnyi noted that the attack marked the second time there has been public confirmation that a North Korean Type 72 MLRS was destroyed in Ukraine.
Another attack by the Burevii Brigade

According to an earlier report from Militarnyi on July 12th, the Ukrainian 1st Presidential Operations Brigade, which is also known as the Burevii Brigade, struck and destroyed a Type 75 MLRS.

What is the North Korean Type 75 MLRS?

The North Korean Type 75 Multiple Rocket Launcher System is a rather weird weapon to find on the battlefield in Ukraine, mostly because of its age and design. But it is being seen on the frontlines more often.
A copy of an already copied weapon

United24 noted the North Korean Type 75 MLRS is a copy of the 107 mm rocket system based on the Chinese 12-tube Type 63, which is itself a copy of the obsolete Soviet-era BM-14. However, the North Korean Type 75 system still packs quite a punch.

What can the Type 75 MLRS do?

Capable of firing a 12-rocket salvo, the Type 75 MLRS has a range of 8.5 km (5.28 mi) and is relatively lightweight and easy to transport, even if it is considered outdated. Still, it's proving to be an effective weapon on the frontlines in Ukraine.
Not a self-propelled system

The Type 75 MLRS isn’t self-propelled, but the war in Ukraine has seen these systems fitted to Russia’s ‘Varan’ robotic platforms, according to a report from Defense Express.
The Type 75 is usually towed

Militarnyi noted that some Type 75 MLRS models can be towed or attached to vehicles, which allows for 16, 24, and 27 tubes to be added, especially on the ship-based versions.

Video footage of the Burevii Brigade's attack

Video footage posted on Telegram by the Burevii Brigade showed that the Type 75 MLRS that soldiers from the brigade destroyed wasn’t on any type of platform, robotic or otherwise, though some have been added to the backs of military trucks.

What the video revealed

In the video footage, the brigade identified the system and showed how troops used a drone to eliminate the system. The drone attack reportedly occurred in the Kupiansk sector.

Was the weapon destroyed?

It was unclear from the footage whether or not the system was completely destroyed in the attack. However, the video claimed that the Type 75 was knocked out in the attack.
