They disrupted a Russian salvage operation

In May 2025, Ukrainian drone pilots were operating behind enemy lines when they spotted an armored recovery operation and attacked Russian forces working to salvage a tank. Video footage of the impressive assault was later published online and revealed what happened.
The Ivan Franko Group in action

According to Defense Express, drone operators from the Ivan Franko Group operating deep behind Russian lines spotted an Armored Recovery Vehicle (BREM) transporting what the defense outlet reported was a damaged tank and took it.

Drone operators took the opportunity to strike

After spotting the BREM on the move, the Ukrainian drone operators took the opportunity to attack the system while it was vulnerable. Footage from the attacks revealed what happened next.

What the combat footage showed

In the video, the Russian armored recovery vehicle can be seen carrying a damaged tank and being led by another military vehicle. Ukrainian drone operators appeared to have waited until the BREM was stopped before attacking the system.

The first drone swooped down on the vehicle

One drone swoops down on the armored recovery vehicle from above and slams into an unidentifiable part of the system. The first strike can be seen from the view of an overhead reconnaissance drone.

The BREM tried to escape but was hunted down

At some point during the attack, the BREM started moving again. However, the footage showed a fourth drone tracking the armored recovery vehicle. The drone smashed into the system after it appeared to stop again.

The video doesn’t show the BREM's clear destruction

It is unclear from the footage if the BREM was destroyed in the attack. However, the Ivan Franko Group claimed in a message posted with the combat footage that the Russian armored recovery vehicle had been destroyed by the drone attacks.

Demilitarizing Russia by all available means

"We continue to demilitarize Russia by all available means," the unit commented on its Telegram channel. It also noted that several other vehicles were destroyed in the attack. In the video, a transport truck and an unknown vehicle can be seen being attacked.

What we know about the BREM that was hit

The Russian Armed Forces field a variety of BREM armored recovery vehicle models. It is unclear which model was attacked by the Ivan Franko Group. However, the original BREM-1 was introduced into the Russian military in 1975 and may have been what was attacked in the video.

Maybe a BREM-1M was destroyed?

According to Army Recognition, Russia accepted the upgraded BREM-1M model into service in 2013. This was an upgraded model based on the T-90 tank.

Designed to evacuate tanks

The BREM-1M was designed to evacuate tanks from the frontline and also provide technical support, making it another possible candidate for the system that was destroyed by the Ivan Franko Group.
