Authentic adventures? Delicious diners? Timeless treasures? Outstanding oddities? Several of Ohio's beloved landmarks were recognized for having some of the nation's best road trip stops of 2025.
The USA TODAY 10BEST Readers' Choice Awards placed some of Ohio's charming hidden gems among the best roadside stops. The list is comprised of different subcategories, ranking the country's top 10 attractions in several categories. From roadside attractions to eateries, the publication highlighted spots in Cincinnati, Columbus, and more. A total of four Ohio-based attractions made the cut this year.
"A panel of experts selected nominees across 11 categories, then our readers voted for their favorites," the publication's website reads. "After four weeks of voting, the results are in."
These are some of Ohio's best roadside locations that you can cross off your bucket list.
Best Roadside Attraction: Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum voted No. 9 in U.S.

The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum landed at No. 9 among the top 10 Best Roadside Attractions in the U.S. The unique attraction is located in Logan (about an hour southeast of Columbus). It began when the late Rev. Paul Johnson began collecting pencil sharpeners more than 20 years ago. Today, it houses more than 3,400 pencil sharpeners, considered to be the largest collection in America.
The one-of-a-kind museum is adjacent to the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center, which is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday.
Ohio has 2 of the best roadside diners: Tommy's Diner in Columbus and Camp Washington Chili in Cincinnati

Both Tommy's Diner in Columbus and Camp Washington Chili in Cincinnati were named among the best roadside diners in the nation on the 10BEST list.
Camp Washington Chili, open 24 hours, ranked No. 8 on the list while Tommy's Diner in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus landed a couple of spots higher at No. 6.
Camp Washington Chili won the prestigious culinary James Beard Award and has been in operation since 1940, known for its Cincinnati-style chili.
Tommy's Diner serves up breakfast delights that include gyro and feta omelets, ribeye steak and eggs, and cinnamon swirl French toast. This is the first time both restaurants appeared on the 10BEST list.
South Wind Motel in Columbus made the Best Roadside Motel list

Columbus' German Village possesses one of the country's best roadside motels, according to 10BEST voters. South Wind Motel was voted No. 6 among the Top 10 spots.
Open for over 50 years, the motel underwent a major renovation in 2022 and now features new lodging amenities and sustainable designs like EV-charging ports and a solar panel-covered roof.
Shelby's Diner in Kentucky ranked No. 3 Best Roadside Diners

Shelby's Diner in Frankfort has been named among the best roadside diners in the nation, according to the USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.
Located about 1.5 hours from Cincinnati in Frankfort, Kentucky, Shelby's Diner serves up classic Southern cuisine and has been voted No. 3 among the nation's Best Roadside Diners among 10BEST readers.
