Celebrate Juneteenth at a newly opened, Black-owned restaurant in metro Phoenix
Out of hundreds of new restaurants that have opened in metro Phoenix over the last year, many are run by Black chefs and restaurateurs, from fine dining to bakeries, coffee shops to comfort food.
Support Black-owned businesses all year long by visiting restaurants serving Cajun-style breakfast, upscale Southern comfort, barbecue and fresh baked pastries at new and exciting spots run by Black chefs and restaurateurs.
Here are 10 new Black-owned and operated restaurants to try now in metro Phoenix.
Bear and the Honey
Bear and the Honey, an allergy-conscious bakery focusing on gluten-free and vegan sweets, held a grand reopening in Phoenix in October. They offer scones, muffins, croissants, cookies and other baked goods. They also serve coffee.
Big Bacon's
Big Bacon's is a new Chicago-style soul food restaurant on Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix. Menu highlights include stuffed chicken breast, stuffed jerk burgers, lollipop lamb chops and a fried porkchop sandwich.
Bonnie's Bread & Butter
Bonnie's Bread & Butter Co. is now open in Chandler, serving sandwiches, brew and fondue. Menu highlights include an Arizona-inspired take on the classic Philly cheesesteak, a carne asada torta, pork dip sandwich, a bread and butter "candle," bread pudding and French onion soup.
Cajun Breakfast Joint
Cajun Breakfast Joint is a new restaurant in Chandler offering exactly what the name suggests: Cajun-style breakfast and brunch items such as grit cakes, crawfish gravy, alligator and grits, po'boys and praline cornbread bananas foster.
Charlie's Backyard BBQ
Charlie's Backyard BBQ held a grand opening in Mesa in July. The restaurant offers an array of smoked meats like brisket, ribs, pulled pork and rib tips which can be served as part of a plate or sandwich. Side options include beans, corn, potato salad, fries and coleslaw.
George's Chicken & Shrimp
George's Chicken & Shrimp is a new Chicago-style fried chicken restaurant in Tempe. Menu items include chicken and shrimp fried biscuits, fried calamari, catfish baskets, jumbo shrimp and fish sandwiches.

The Grind by Chic Chef
The Grind by Chic Chef is the latest concept from Nik Fields. The new downtown Phoenix coffee shop is aimed at entrepreneurs and young professionals, offering a quiet and relaxing place to meet or work. Signature drinks include the Entrepreneur's Edge made with espresso, oat milk and vanilla syrup; the Boss Babe matcha latte with lavender syrup; and The Grind iced white chocolate mocha with espresso, whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.
Industry Standard
Led by chef Edward Mclachlan, Industry Standard is now open in the former Carly’s Bistro space on Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix, offering craft cocktails and chef-driven small plates like spinach dip, lobster rolls, pork belly and lamb pasta.
The Larder & The Delta
Award-winning chef Stephen Jones reopened his restaurant The Larder + The Delta, which closed in 2023, with a slightly new name. The reimagined restaurant takes over the former Binkley's space and offers elevated dishes inspired by the Southern recipes he grew up eating.
Suss Pastries
After getting started selling wholesale out of a house, Suss Pastries finally opened its first ever brick-and-mortar location in the Melrose District of Phoenix. Mouthwatering menu highlights include honey pecan cookies, Sonoran brownies, blueberry cobbler bressane, fruit pockets, chorizo and egg hot pockets and customizable cake orders.
