Friday Flakes: Nebraska Basketball’s Brice Williams Signs with the Detroit Pistons - They Got a Steal

While I thought there was a chance for Brice Williams to hear his name called in the second round of the NBA draft, I had a feeling that the chance was unlikely.

Bryan Kalbrosky, of USA Today, is reporting that Brice Williams has signed with the Detroit Pistons.

I do not think that Brice Williams will be a star in the NBA. However, I think he could end up being a steal as a free agent signing.

His ability to shoot the ball will only improve and he has shown that he can produce in a highly competitive league. At some point the NBA is going to realize that their G League is crap and that college basketball does a better job of developing players and Brice Williams will be no exception.

He has played for a coach, in Fred Hoiberg, who has head coaching experience in the NBA and has the skillset that the NBA is looking for so he will be uniquely prepared to contribute in the next season or so.

My main criticism of Brice at times this past season is that he generally goes within the flow of the game. He doesn’t force anything. That criticism stemmed also from the fact that Nebraska needed an alpha at times last season and that isn’t the personality of Brice. However, I think he could end up being a really good role player for a really good NBA team in the future.

Brice Williams didn’t hear his name called during the 2025 NBA Draft as hoped, but the record-setting Nebraska guard will get a shot at the next level.

The 6-foot-7 Williams signed an undrafted rookie free agent deal with the Detroit Pistons on Friday. He joins Bryce McGowens (Portland Trailblazers), Dalano Banton (Portland), and Jack McVeigh (Houston Rockets) as former Huskers in the NBA.

With Nebraska’s 2025 season around the corner, the HuskerOnline team voted on the Top 40 Husker players going into Matt Rhule’s third season in Lincoln.

The voting criteria were to rank the players based on their importance to the team, overall talent, and future potential for the upcoming season. Our voters focused specifically on the 2025 season, not future seasons, a player’s long-term importance, or future talent.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nine weeks from Thursday, while inside the comfort of a radio booth at Arrowhead Stadium and set to call his first game as the voice of Nebraska football, Kyle Crooks expects that his thoughts might drift back to a wet and cold fall afternoon in northeastern Pennsylvania.

OK, pencils down.

The 2025 NBA Draft is complete, after two days and the usual rapid-fire series of trades at the end — 44 of the final 47 picks changed hands at least once. Congrats to Boston (28), Chicago (43), and Cleveland (58) for holding onto their picks for the entire eight-year cycle during which draft picks may be dealt.
