Lena Dunham wasn't planning on falling in love when she relocated to London, but that's exactly what happened after some friends set her up on a blind date with Luis Felber. The couple met in early 2021, after which Dunham had already become the voice of her generation—or at least a voice, of a generation—for thousands of millennial women, thanks to her breakout show Girls. The writer-director then "broke up with New York" for good at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In New York—the fastest city in the world—days had felt like years," Dunham wrote in an essay penned for the New Yorker. "In London, years passed like days, which is how I ended up, five years on, realizing that London is my home now, so much so that I call seltzer 'sparkling water' and settle for bagels that taste like caulk."

Inspired by Dunham's relationship with Feber, it stars Meg Stalter and Will Sharpe. As for her whirlwind romance with her real-life husband? Get to know the British-Peruvian musician below.

Felber grew up in England, Chile, and Peru.

Felber was born in Winchester, England in 1986. His mother is Peruvian; his father is English. The family spent his early childhood in Chile and Peru before relocating to the U.K. when Felber was seven.

"It influences me a lot," Felber said of his Peruvian heritage. "It influences me in what I eat, like every day. I've tasted Peruvian food and it's the bomb. I feel like it's a different world over there, you know...So, like, I'm blessed I've had that experience and I'm blessed I can speak Spanish as well as English."

He's a solo musician.

Felber was a musical kid who taught himself how to play guitar by watching MTV. He later toured with various bands before opting to go his own way as a one man show under the moniker Attawalpa.

In an interview with Yuck, the Brit said that he prefers a "DIY, out on the street" style as opposed to working with major labels. "Especially with videos, I get to collaborate and evolve with really cool directors and people I've been wanting to work with for ages," he added.

Felber released his debut album in October 2022, roughly one year after him and Dunham tied the knot. Titled Presence, the project was recorded between London and New York City. "I hope you can find the time to devour it," Felber wrote on Instagram at the time. "No rush."

His artist name is an homage to Peru.

Felber's full name is Luis Delfin Attawalpa Saul Felber, and he choose one of his middle names—Attawalpa—for his solo project. The moniker is Peruvian and also happens to be the name of the last Incan emperor, whose reign began in 1532 and ended with the Spanish colonization of the Americas. Felber later told Yuck that he "wanted a name that is powerful to me."

"I was trying to think of a name for this project and I had a few that I tried out, but this really stuck," he added. "I connect with it and there's a big part of culture in it."

It may not have been love at first sight, but it was pretty damn close. The duo were set up by "a series of friends machinations," according to Vogue, and ended up spending an entire day together.

"The first time we hung out, we didn't stop talking for, like, eight hours," Felber told the New York Times. "I think it was sort of incredible, you know, I walked into that. I'd been on quite a few dates in the past year. As someone who's quite open, I find you hold a lot back on your first three dates. Or first 10 dates. I was just a bit fed up with that, so I just walked into the situation very myself, shall I say. And Lena liked that. And she's the same."

Dunham is Felber's "soulmate."

In the same New York Times interview, the musician opened up about the couple's whirlwind romance, saying simply, "when you know, you know."

"I've only been alive for 35 years in this lifetime, and I think it's another archaic thing for guys to hide their feelings. I'm way more into the flow of getting to know the person. And I think Lena's the same," Felber told the publication. "And I think—I'm going to sound cheesy—but when you find your soulmate, you just know."

Felber has also called Dunham his "best friend". “The moment we met, it was that sort of cheesy, beautiful thing of automatic connection," he told Variety. "Neither of us were expecting that.”

He has never watched 'Girls.'

Despite his awareness of the "impact it's had on people," Felber has never actually seen Girls. "When you're an artist, you're living in the present, into the future. You're looking for the next thing," he said by way of explanation. "Looking back is a thing we shouldn't really do too much, to be able to move forward with ease."

As for his other family members? His mom and sister are fans of the show, Felber told the Times.

He proposed to Dunham after a hospital visit.

After less than a year of dating, Felber got down on one knee. Dunham was in the hospital at the time and the experience apparently made him realize she was the one, per Vogue. The bling of choice was a family heirloom: an Incan Peruvian ring from the early 1700s that belonged to his grandmother.

"When you got back [from the hospital], we were in bed, and I said, 'I just I don't ever want you to go through that on your own again,'" Felber recalled. "And you said, 'Oh, I want to marry you someday.' And I said, 'Why don't we make that someday, soon day? The next day, I went for a walk with my friend Tom, and he was going on about his life, and I was like, 'I think I proposed to Lena last night.' And when I got home, we made it real."

They got married in London in 2021.

One month after Felber's proposal, the couple said "I do" in a small ceremony at a members-only space in London called Union Club. Roughly 60 friends and family were in attendance (including Taylor Swift), per Vogue. The groom wore Bode and the bride wore Christopher Kane.

"365 days later, he remains #1 in my iPhone favorites and I wake up jubilant every morning we are together and pining when we are apart," Dunham later wrote in an anniversary post. "What can I say, @attawalpa, except that you are my home, my hero and my heart. Let's keep doing this?"

They co-wrote and co-produced 'Too Much.'

Dunham and Felber have had a collaborative partnership from the very beginning. In 2021, she directed the music video for Attawalpa's song "Tucked In Tight." The following year, he wrote the music for her 2022 film Sharp Stick.

Most recently, the husband-wife duo co-wrote and co-produced the Netflix series Too Much, a fictionalized retelling of Dunham's move to London and their subsequent whirlwind romance.

"[Working together is] the best—I love being directed by her," Felber told the Times. "It's like our relationship, it just sort of flows. We don't have any arguments. She's obviously very good at what she does."
