Why Kate Middleton and Prince William Are “Even Happier Together” Than Before

Married for 14 years now, the Prince and Princess of Wales have never looked more besotted.

  • On the occasion of their 14th wedding anniversary on April 29, the Prince and Princess of Wales traveled to Scotland for a two-day visit, including a return trip to the Isle of Mull on their actual wedding anniversary.
  • The couple recalled a visit to the remote island in 2003, right around the beginning of their romantic relationship.
  • A source close to the 2025 visit said that Kate Middleton and Prince William looked more “comfortable with each other than ever” while there.

It was an intentional choice for Kate Middleton and Prince William to spend their 14th wedding anniversary on April 29 at a familiar place—the Isle of Mull in Scotland, where the Princess of Wales revealed while there last month that she and William visited when they were college students at the University of St. Andrews, also in Scotland.

“It was 2003 when we were here,” Kate said during the visit. “We had a lovely time here—it’s wonderful.”

She also revealed that she had “brought home some watercolors” from that trip, which William and Kate now keep as decor in one of the bedrooms of their Norfolk country home, Anmer Hall.

The visit was a special one for William and Kate, who met as first-year college students in 2001 and, around 2003 and their visit to the Isle of Mull, became a couple after becoming friends and, later, platonic roommates. In the 20-plus years since, of course, much has happened—from their April 29, 2011 wedding day to raising three kids, and the shocking 2024 cancer diagnosis that upended most of last year for the future queen.

Because of all of these factors, William and Kate’s visit to the Isle of Mull was especially significant, and a source involved with the visit to Scotland told Hello! that “They appeared more natural and comfortable with each other than ever” while there.

“They were constantly touching one another, nudging each other to point things out and sharing lots of jokes,” they added. “Their newfound appreciation of life after everything that has happened seems to have made them even happier together.”

During the two-day visit—which also took them to Iona before they returned home to England and kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—William and Kate shared a stunning snapshot of themselves embracing, captioning it, “Wonderful to be back on the Isle of Mull. Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome.” They signed off the April 29 post with a red heart emoji and the postscript “W & C,” indicating that the message was from them personally.

Of the visit, “It looked like them reconnecting with a place of which they clearly have happy memories,” the source told Hello!. “They were in their element.”
