Kate Middleton made a cheeky remark regarding her son Prince Louis during a recent royal outing. At an exhibit of items from the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, the Princess of Wales jokingly compared her 7-year-old to a former monarch.

"I should know," she reportedly said while viewing a portrait of a young King Louis XIV, who ruled France from 1643 to 1715.

Middleton also shares an older son, Prince George, and daughter Princess Charlotte with her husband of over a decade, Prince William.

Middleton is known to be fan of family heirlooms: she frequently favors one of Princess Diana's favorite tiaras, the Queen Mary Lovers' Knot, and she's also worn jewelry that belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Middleton's newest royal accessory, however, was gifted to her by King Charles III.

Earlier this week, the Princess of Wales attended a banquet on behalf of French President Emmanuel Macron wearing the Royal Family Order of King Charles III—a new sash that was first worn by Queen Camilla in 2024.

Middleton paired her caped Givenchy gown with the pale blue ribbon, which comes affixed with a portrait of the King.

"The tradition of commissioning a Family Order, a badge worn by female members of the royal family personally bestowed by the sovereign, was established by King George IV over 200 years ago," read a 2024 statement from Buckingham Palace. "Family Orders have since been instituted by Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II."

The Family Order is personally bestowed by the monarch without government consultation, typically once a female royal has been a working member of the family for for several years.
