  • Princess Diana’s niece Lady Kitty Spencer wore a Kate Middleton-approved color—aqua—to a party on the London social scene on June 24.
  • Kitty—who is the eldest daughter of Charles Spencer, Diana’s younger brother—called her Dolce & Gabbana gown a “dress of dreams.”
  • Kitty has a longstanding relationship with the brand; it designed her five wedding dresses when she married Michael Lewis in Italy in 2021.

Is aqua the color of the season for those surrounding the royal family? Maybe. After Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte’s twinning moment in the hue at Trooping the Colour on June 14, Lady Kitty Spencer—the niece of Princess Diana and the cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry—also turned up in the shade at the Serpentine Gallery summer party on June 24.

Kitty wore a gown by Dolce & Gabbana—a piece she called a “dress of dreams” on her Instagram—to the soiree on Tuesday night. The sheer, strapless ball gown made from billowing tulle included intricate appliqué flowers that cascaded down the front of the gown—and confirmed aqua as the color of the season for royal women.

Kitty is the daughter of Diana’s younger brother Charles Spencer, and told Vanity Fair of her aunt, the former Princess of Wales, “I was so young [when Diana was alive]. There are only a few memories, but special memories and happy memories, and I’m so lucky to have those.” (Diana died on August 31, 1997, when Kitty was just six years old.)

Though Kitty doesn’t have to work, she told The Telegraph that she enjoyed her work as a model and brand ambassador, telling the outlet, “I always loved the feeling of working hard, getting an A. The grownup version of that is that you do your job well and you get paid.”

“It’s validation—what you have to offer is worth something,” she continued. “That transaction is healthy. It is important for self-worth, particularly for women. You don’t need anyone for anything. All you need is your own discipline and commitment, and to deliver on what you say you are going to do.”

As to women she admires, all she has to do is look within her own brood, she told the publication: “There are a lot of strong women in the Spencer family,” Kitty said.

Of her fame, she told Harper’s Bazaar, “I guess it’s balance and perspective. I have immense gratitude for the life I live, but it also gives me a platform to talk about issues and causes I feel passionately about. That’s a responsibility that I take very seriously. Having awareness and gratitude is important.”

“As long as I’m compassionate, strong, and hardworking, then I’ll be happy,” she told the outlet elsewhere in the interview. “You need to be able to look back on your life and think you were passionate about something and that you did your bit to help or to change a situation, no matter how small. That’s ultimately what it means to be alive on this planet; to be compassionate is to be human.”

Kitty married Michael Lewis in 2021 and welcomed their daughter Athena in 2023; she told Hello! that after becoming a mother, “I do a lot less than I did [work-wise] now that I’ve got my little girl.”

“I’m much more selective, because it’s not really free time anymore,” she added. “I’ve got to really want to do something—I’m happy with the balance.”

Kitty has long been a brand ambassador for Dolce & Gabbana, which dressed her last night in aqua. The house designed five looks for Kitty’s Italian wedding nearly four years ago, and Kitty told Hello!, “They did such a wonderful job of making something that suited me, but also represented me.” Of combining her British heritage and Italian life, “They found away to bring the two together in a way that was really magnificent to watch and to be a part of,” she added.
