Prince George Makes a Rare Comment at Wimbledon Just Days Ahead of His 12th Birthday

The future king is nothing if not humble.

The Gist

  • Prince George attended Wimbledon’s men’s singles final on July 13 alongside Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Princess Charlotte.
  • When asked how his own tennis skills were, the future king kept it modest and humble when describing his performance on the court.
  • The siblings also were given signed tennis balls by champion Jannik Sinner—with one to take home to Prince Louis, as well, who wasn’t there on Sunday.

He may be second in line to the British throne, but you can’t say future king Prince George isn’t humble.

George attended the Wimbledon men’s final on July 13 alongside his dad Prince William, his sister Princess Charlotte, and his mom Kate Middleton, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a role she’s held since 2016. The entire Wales family—which also includes George’s brother Prince Louis—is athletic, but also modest.

Per The Telegraph, after being introduced to Wimbledon doubles champions Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, Cash asked George about his tennis skills and whether he was “any good.”

The 11-year-old—who turns 12 on July 22—shrugged and simply said, “I’m alright.”

George wore a suit for the tournament in his third appearance at Wimbledon. He made his debut at the tournament in 2022, when he was just shy of 10 years old; he returned the next year, in 2023, alongside Charlotte making her own debut at the event. George didn’t attend in 2024, though Charlotte did, and came back alongside his parents and sister in 2025. Younger brother Louis, 7, hasn’t yet made his debut, though, in all fairness, George made his at 9 years old and Charlotte made hers at 8 years old—so there is still time.

George and Charlotte, in a cream chiffon dress with black trim, both fanned themselves to keep cool in the heat. The two sat with their parents in the Royal Box at Centre Court, which is typically off-limits to children as it only seats 74 people. “Prince George and Princess Charlotte are the recent exceptions to the rules,” People reported.

After Jannik Sinner won the men’s final on Sunday, he signed tennis balls for both George and Charlotte—and the Princess of Wales shared that they’d brought along a third ball to be signed for Louis, who stayed back at home. As Sinner signed the tennis balls, Kate told him, “Thank you so much, that’s really kind,” before adding, “We brought one for their brother as well” (per People).

“Louis would be very upset otherwise,” William added with a laugh.

George and Charlotte both congratulated Sinner on his victory, with George telling him, “Well played.” (Kate, for her part, told Sinner that his win “was seriously inspiring and impressive” as she gestured towards George and Charlotte, People reported.)

Sinner then asked the siblings if they played tennis and what racquets they used, to which George and Charlotte replied, “Yonex.” This passed the test for the Wimbledon champion, who responded with, “Okay, that’s nice.”
