Even Ronald Reagan declared ice cream a "nutritious and wholesome food" in the 1980s when he declared the sweet treat deserved a day and entire month dedicated to it.

What is National Ice Cream Day 2025?
Sunday, July 20 is National Ice Cream Day. The celebration always lands on the third Sunday in July, which is also the perfect time to celebrate National Ice Cream Month. Then-President Ronald Reagan signed both into law in 1984, remarking the refreshing treat was the "perfect dessert and snack food." According to World Atlas, Americans consume about 5 ½ gallons of ice cream each year, per person, with ice cream makers churning out 870 million gallons yearly just to keep up with demand. That's the second highest among the world, with the industry thriving in New Zealand, where residents consume 7 ½ gallons per year.

National Ice Cream Day doesn't exist without Dairy Queen coming in hot with sweet and melty deal. During National Ice Cream Month, McDonald's has brought back its Hershey's S'mores McFlurry for the summer, complete with Hershey's Milk Chocolate, crunchy graham crackers and marshmallows. The sweet treat is available at participating McDonald's through Aug. 11.
Cold Stone Creamery
Cold Stone Creamery is serving up week-long deals, with different offerings through July 20. On Friday, July 18, get $3 off $10 by using code "NICD3OFF10" at checkout, online only. Check their Facebook page for daily deals.
Baskin Robbins
Baskin-Robbins is celebrating National Ice Cream Day 2025 through July 26, with the chain remarking "one day just isn't enough." We agree. What is America's favorite ice cream flavor?
Vanilla scoops up the top spot as America's favorite ice cream flavor, according to a 2024 survey by the International Dairy Foods Association. Americans are diehard traditionalists when it comes to choosing a favorite flavor, with chocolate and strawberry rounding out the top three. But newer flavors like Butter Pecan and Cookie Dough, as well as mint chocolate chip and cookies and cream, swirling up the top 10.
It's no secret Americans love ice cream, with 97% saying they either love or like the frozen treat., according to the survey. And when it comes to toppings, hot fudge and whipped cream are the GOATs, while a waffle cone or bowl is the preferred mode of delivery. Surprisingly, only 1 in 10 say their favorite method is straight out of the carton. What?!
