Critical Matthew Stafford Injury Update As Los Angeles Rams Kick Off Training Camp

Can you smell it? The sights, sounds, and smells of real football are back as the Los Angeles Rams kick off Training Camp at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, not all is perfect, as head coach Sean McVay gave an injury update on starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Per McVay, Stafford is dealing with back soreness and is expected to be limited to begin practices. He will likely work off to the side for the first 5 days of camp, while backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo takes the first team reps.
McVay expanded to say that his workouts will be modified over the course of those five practices.

I don’t think this is something to be overly concerned about. Stafford is 37 years old and has been involved in plenty of training camps throughout his career.
He has also been in the Sean McVay system for long enough that a few days working individual drills off to the side are not going to set him back.

The only concern, if any, is that with the new skill player additions, ie. Davante Adams and Terrance Ferguson, every day of practice is critical to build that chemistry.
We know that McVay will not play any of his starters in the preseason, so it is up to all of the camp practices for any new players to get on the same page with their signal caller.
This will be an opportunity for Jimmy Garoppolo to get some valuable reps, as well as Stetson Bennett with the 2s. The Rams did just bring back Dresser Winn to be another camp arm, and now his re-signing signals that they knew Stafford would be limited to begin camp.
Our very own Ryan Anderson and Nikko Buenavidez will be at every Rams Training Camp practice. Make sure to follow them for updates, bookmark LAFB, and subscribe to our Rams LAFB YouTube Channel!
