GWM Ora Good GT to make its Malaysian debut during Merdeka Day parade?

It appears that GWM Ora Good GT will be making its first public debut in Malaysia at the upcoming Merdeka Day parade. This is based on the photos that were published by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) on its Facebook page.

Earlier this year, GWM Malaysia announced that the Ora Good Cat GT is on its way to our market. However, the company did not reveal the EV’s actual launch date in Malaysia.

This is not the first time that EV manufacturers have chosen the Merdeka Day parade to show their new model to the Malaysian public for the first time. For example, Proton e.MAS 7 made its first official public appearance during last year’s parade, while the Mercedes EQS SUV also did so in 2023.

In the same photo, we were also able to identify Chery Omoda E5, iCaur 03, BYD Sealion 7, Leapmotor C10, BMW i4 M50, and Mercedes G-Class EV. MITI has also shared other photos which show the MG Cyberster and Smart #3.

There is also another image that shows several electric motorcycles such as BMW CE04, BMW CE02, Ebixon Vmoto CPx Pro, CFMoto Zeeho AE4, and Yadea Velax. On a related note, Pro-Net has also confirmed the appearance of Proton e.MAS 5 at the upcoming parade, although it is not known whether the EV will be joining MITI’s EV convoy or with another contingent.

GWM Ora Good Cat GT quick specs

GWM Ora Good Cat GT coming to Malaysia

In general, the Ora Good Cat GT is a slightly souped-up version of the Good Cat EV in both appearance and performance. Over in Thailand, the Good Cat GT is equipped with a 128kW (172hp) electric motor that also produces 250Nm of torque, as opposed to the 105kW (141hp) motor with 210Nm torque inside the non-GT variants in Malaysia.

While the Thai-spec Good Cat GT has a larger 57.70kWh LFP battery than the Good Cat Pro in Malaysia, which has a 47.79kWh LFP battery, the capacity is still lower than the 63.139kWh ternary lithium battery on the Good Cat Ultra. In terms of range, the Good Cat GT also has an NEDC-rated range of 460km – right in between Good Cat Pro (400km) and Good Cat Ultra (500km).

On the outside, it is quite easy to differentiate the Good Cat GT and its non-GT counterparts. There’s the GT emblem on its back alongside GT-exclusive bumpers, spoiler, and wheels. Inside, the compact electric hatchback is also equipped with a pair of sports seats for the driver and front passenger – complete with a GT logo on their headrests.
