‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Voice Actors on the Surreal Moment BTS Became Fans
Voice actors May Hong, Arden Cho and Ji-young Yoo couldn’t contain their excitement as K-pop idols became fans of their newest project, “KPop Demon Hunters.”
The film — now Netflix’s most-watched movie with 236 million views — follows the girl group HUNTR/X on a demon-slaying mission to protect the world by sealing the Honmoon, a portal between the human and demon realms.
Hong voices Mira, Cho voices Rumi, and Yoo voices Zoey — together, they make up the girl group.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Yoo, who is a “really big BTS fan,” says she was left in shock when BTS started to sing songs from the film on their livestreams.
Cho, who was in Korea shortly after the film’s release, says she saw “the response and the love from actual idols who are living this life,” calling the moment “incredible” and a “stamp of approval.”
While attending her first convention, Hong said that seeing the line of fans waiting to meet her was “absurd,” thinking that the film was not as big as she thought.
Other BTS members have sung along to many of the film's soundtracks in other livestreams, leaving many fans in shock that their idols are also watching the film.
“It just felt like my body and my brain separated and I still can’t really talk about it. I think once that happened, I went like, ‘oh my God!’” Yoo said in utter shock.

“When we were starting to get recognition from actual K-pop idols, that’s when we’ve done something right,” she added.
When asked for their take on a live action remake of the film, Hong believed that Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon would best portray Mira, whereas Yoo believed Chu from Luna would be a good fit for Zoey.
However, singers like Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, BLACKPINK, TWICE and NewJeans were the people who the trio believed could seal the Honmoon.
“And of course, BTS,” Cho said with a laugh.
