Johnson's Corner — an iconic Northern Colorado truck stop dating back to the early 1950s — closed its restaurant in January 2025 with plans to reopen the space as Black Bear Diner, according to past Coloradoan reporting.
The family restaurant chain — known for its American fare and all-day breakfast — has locations in 13 states across the western half of the U.S., according to its website. Its Johnstown location is its fifth Colorado diner, joining existing locations in Aurora and the Colorado Springs area.

A custom etched-glass window separates a room in the dining area of the Black Bear Diner in Ventura, California on Jan. 13, 2022.
Despite the new diner, Johnson’s Corner’s popular cinnamon rolls and other baked goods will remain for sale inside its gas station, according to past Coloradoan reporting.
Black Bear Diner is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
