King Charles and David Beckham Share an Unexpected Moment at Chelsea Flower Show

“You got it, didn’t you?”

  • David Beckham attended his first ever Chelsea Flower Show on May 19.
  • While there, he chatted with King Charles and Queen Camilla, even wearing “The King’s Rose”—named after Charles—as a sartorial nod to his growing friendship with the monarch.
  • Charles and Camilla apparently sent David a birthday gift for his recent milestone 50th, which they were spotted chatting about at the event on Monday.

The royal family crossovers with the Beckham family continued yesterday, when King Charles ran into longtime royalist David Beckham at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show in London.

The meetup happened less than a week after Kate Middleton wore a Victoria Beckham design to a British Fashion Council event, and a week after news broke that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hosted Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham at a dinner party at their Montecito, California home. The Beckhams were part of a larger set that included roughly 20 people.

Monday was David’s first time at the famed flower show, People reported; the soccer legend is teaming up with the King’s Foundation on a new campaign to inspire young people into careers in horticulture, according to the outlet, noting that David is an ambassador for the charitable organization run by Charles.

David was wearing a new rose named in the King’s honor (called, simply, “The King’s Rose”), and he and “Charles were seen sharing a warm reunion,” People reported. Speaking of flowers named in honor of royals, a highlight of this year’s show was a new flower dedicated to the Princess of Wales, called “Catherine’s Rose,” featuring coral-pink petals and hints of Turkish Delight and mango. This flower was created to honor the future queen’s “advocacy for the healing power of nature,” according to People, and proceeds will support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, where Kate previously underwent cancer treatment.

Per The Telegraph, David appeared to thank the King and Queen Camilla “for a thoughtful 50th birthday gift after celebrating the milestone earlier in May,” the outlet reported. “You got it, didn’t you?” the King asked David, to which he responded, “It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.”

For her part, Camilla jumped in and added, “Nice to see you again. Glad you got the roses.” Gesturing to David’s sartorial tribute to the King in the form of the aforementioned flower—which has grown at the King’s country home, Highgrove, for the past three years—David told the Queen the rose was “so beautiful, so beautiful. Congratulations.”

Since becoming an ambassador to The King’s Foundation in 2024, David has become increasingly close to the royal family, according to The Telegraph. In December, David and Victoria joined Charles and Camilla at a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, and in February, the Beckhams joined the King and Queen at Highgrove for a black-tie dinner. In March, Victoria was invited to Buckingham Palace for a Women of the World event hosted by the Queen.

David is also “on friendly terms” with Prince William, who he joined forces with last October to “celebrate the replacement of London’s aging air ambulance helicopters,” The Telegraph reported.

While chatting Monday, Camilla appeared to ask David about Victoria, as he responded, per The Sun, “She’s doing very well.” After Camilla asked if a party was held at the Beckhams’ home, David said, “We had a busy weekend this weekend. It was a lot of fun. It was the perfect weekend.”

And speaking of parties, after their dinner party encounter recently, Brooklyn and Nicola reportedly “found Harry and Meghan to be particularly kind, caring, and generous”—and the two couples can no doubt relate, as both have reportedly experienced amplified family friction within recent weeks.
