One a day where everyting was on the line, two Ann Arbor-area baseball teams made sure they would not go down without a fight.

Saline and Chelsea each secured district championships with dramatic performances on Saturday.

The Hornets and Bulldogs each needed clutch play in key moments to hoist district titles and did just that.

Saline rallies to claim district title

The Hornets refused to let their season end in defeat on Saturday as they pulled off a comeback win against Pioneer in the district semifinals and blanked Dexter to claim the D1 District 12 championship.

Saline overcame a 5-3 deficit in the semifinals with a 3-run sixth inning to stave off elimination with a 7-5 win.

The Hornets then earned some revenge in the final against Dexter, securing a 5-0 victory.

In the championship game, Saline racked up four runs in the fifth inning that gave them the momentum to pull away.

Ryder Concannon was dialed in on the mound for the Hornets as he struck out seven batters in seven innings of work.

In addition to Concannon’s performance, Noah Reeves recorded two hits and an RBI, followed by an RBI from Devin Lilly and two hits apiece from Brendan Warwinsky and Mason Piazza.

Dexter’s Cole Novara finished the game with four hits, and pitcher Mason McAllister recorded three strikeouts.

Saline will next face the winner of Hartland in the regional semifinals Wednesday at Howell.

Chelsea claws its way to district championship

The Bulldogs used the momentum of a 1-0 semifinal win over Pinckney to propel them to an 11-3 win over Father Gabriel Richard in Saturday’s D2 district 53 title game.

In the final, Chelsea took control by scoring seven runs between the third and fourth innings to earn the district crown.

Nathan Sobiechowski led the way for the Bulldogs in the championship with two hits and three RBIs, while Will McCalla and Nate Christian each drove in two runs.

Preston Paoletti was credited with the victory as he struck out seven batters in 6.1 innings.

Evan Crossman led FGR with three hits and two RBIs, and Jake Berkemeier and Jacob Hamming each had two hits. The Fighting Irish finished the season at 15-24.

The Bulldogs will now take on SEC-White foe Adrian in Wednesday’s regional semifinal at Tecumseh.

Chelsea swept the series against Adrian during the regular season.

Greenhills’ late rally attempt falls short

The No.5 Gryphons had hopes of making a deep run but were unable to get out of district play, falling 5-2 to Clinton in the district semifinals.

Greenhills fell behind 5-0 entering the seventh inning and could not find enough offense to complete the comeback.

Jeremiah Bowman led Greenhills with two hits, and Josh Dorfman and Ryan Siegal scored the team’s two runs.

Fran Love started the game for the Gryphons as he struck out three batters. Greenhills’ season ended at 27-5, though the 27 regular season wins are a school record.

Milan drops semifinal matchup

The Big Reds struggled to find the offense when needed in their 7-4 loss to Adrian Madison in the D2 district semifinals.

Milan scored three runs in the fourth inning to cut its deficit to 4-3, but Madison regained control with a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Larry Shock III led Milan with a hit and RBI, and Gunnar Kruise, Zack Straub and Nickson Smith each recorded RBIs. Cameron Dessellier pitched six innings and struck out six batters.

Milan closed the season with an 18-12 record.
