Liverpool are advancing in talks to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez in what would be their second signing of the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot’s first summer window was a quiet one, with Federico Chiesa’s arrival from Juventus the only outfield signing of the window.

Liverpool also agreed a deal last summer for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will join the club ahead of next season after spending this year back on loan at Valencia.

However, the Reds appear to be taking a far more front-footed approach to recruitment this summer as Slot looks to put his own spin on the squad after winning the Premier League title.

The Bayer Leverkusen full-back is expected to undergo his medical on Monday ahead of a deal being completed.

And Liverpool are now also advancing for a deal to sign another full-back to provide competition for Andy Robertson at left-back.

Kerkez has impressed greatly in Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side this season and has long been identified as a target by the Merseyside club.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano now reports talks are advancing between both clubs over a potential deal, with Liverpool also close to agreeing personal terms with Kerkez.

Earlier reports suggest that a fee in the region of £45m would be required to lure the 21-year-old away from the south coast.

Kerkez, who has scored two goals and created six assists this season, arrived at Bournemouth for £15m from Dutch side AZ two years ago.

Liverpool’s current sporting director Richard Hughes was Bournemouth’s technical director when the south coast club snapped up the Hungarian international.

Kerkez’s departure would be the second major departure for Bournemouth already this summer, with Dean Huijsen completing a move to Real Madrid last week after his £50m release clause was activated by the Spanish giants.
