Mohamed Salah is determined to create history as Liverpool’s main man insisted he has never been happier during eight years at Anfield.
The Egypt international was crowned Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association for the third time for the outstanding role he played in helping Liverpool win the Premier League.
Salah needs two goal involvements in Liverpool’s final home game against Crystal Palace to set a Premier League record.
He already has the best tally for a 38-game campaign but he can surpass the tally of 47, which is currently held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
They posted their remarkable figures in a 42-game season – Cole got to that tally in 1993-94 and Shearer emulated him 12 months later when he led Blackburn Rovers to the title.
Few would bet against Salah getting the numbers he needs on the afternoon Liverpool will receive the trophy.

Salah was seen in a navy jacket with black lapels, a white shirt and a bow tie as he posed with the trophy

It marks the third time he has been nominated for the award since signing for Liverpool in 2017
But, at the back of his mind, he is already looking to the future and possibly outstripping Thierry Henry, the only other to win the FWA award three times.
Salah took time out of his preparations to receive the trophy at the Landmark Hotel in person, as did Alessio Russo, the Arsenal forward who will attempt to help her team win the Women’s Champions League on Saturday in Lisbon.
‘It means a lot to win this award,’ said Salah, who was previously recognised in 2018 and 2022.
‘It is incredible to see the names and it is so special. I am here because we have won the Premier League and I have had that impact on the team.
‘The day we won it (against Tottenham) honestly, I have never felt that happy and the celebrations when we won it were amazing. But I do want to get the most goals and assists!
‘I wondered at the start of the season how we would do it. A good manager and great players had left and I wondered whether we would be able to do it again. But we worked hard and did our job and we did it very well.
‘We have got a good group of players and a very good manager. We started the season well and we took it on to win the Premier League again.
I hope I can be here again next season. I want to win the Premier League one more time and the Champions League again.’

He confirmed in April that he would be staying at the club after announcing a two-year contract extension

Salah has been influential for the Reds this season, leading the team's charge to another Premier League title
Salah received his trophy from Ian Rush, Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer.
Some think his tally of 346 will come under pressure – including Rush himself, who said 'who knows what might happen over the next two years' – but that is likely to be a bridge too far.
‘I said to this guy “were you playing football when it was five against five or six versus six!”,’ said Salah, who has a close relationship with the Welshman.
‘What he did was amazing. I think his record will be there forever.'
