Jeremie Frimpong has promised Liverpool fans he is ‘going to give his all’ after the club announced a £29.5m deal for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

The Reds have officially completed the signing of the highly-rated 24-year-old wing-back from the Bundesliga side for €35m on a five-year contract.

Frimpong, capped 12 times by the Netherlands, comes in as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has left Liverpool to join Real Madrid.

He helped Leverkusen land a league and cup double in 2024 and previously played for Scottish side Celtic before his four-year spell in Germany.

‘Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together,’ Frimpong told the Liverpool website.

‘I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.’

Frimpong, who will battle Conor Bradley for the first-choice right-back spot, says it was a ‘no-brainer’ to join the current Premier League champions.

After a solid start in Germany, Frimpong only went from strength to strength under the management of former Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who has since left the Bundesliga side for Real Madrid.

In particular, the Spaniard’s decision to move to a back three and deploy Frimpong as a marauding right wing-back unlocked the Dutchman’s attacking threat.

Frimpong scored just once in his first year and a half in the German top-flight – but notched up a remarkable eight goals during Alonso’s first season in charge.

The following season, Frimpong was equally pivotal, registering 26 goal involvements in 47 matches as Leverkusen ended the league season unbeaten, while also winning the DFB-Pokal.

‘Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,’ the Dutchman added.

‘For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’’

Frimpong’s official squad number for the Reds will be confirmed later this summer and he says he can’t wait to work under Dutch manager Arne Slot.

‘I spoke to the manager a few times,’ he said. ‘He sounds very positive. He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed.

‘Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you. I’ve had good conversations with him.

‘I’m really excited [to work with Arne Slot]. Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like, ‘He’s the best coach I’ve ever had’ – things like this.

‘So, I’ve always heard good things about the coach. Now he’s going to be my coach, so I’m excited for that.’

Liverpool’s Frimpong announcement came just hours after confirming Alexander-Arnold is joining Real Madrid in time for the Club World Cup.

A statement from Liverpool on Friday read: ‘Liverpool FC can confirm an offer has been accepted for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid for his transfer upon the opening of the June transfer window.

‘The full-back is now set to join the La Liga club ahead of the expiry of his Reds contract this summer. Liverpool will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1.’
