Ait-Nouri praises Guardiola
18:24 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRayan Ait-Nouri believes he can take his game to the next level playing under Pep Guardiola.
The Algeria international joined Manchester City in a £31million deal from Wolves earlier this month and made an impressive debut in City's 6-0 thrashing of Al Ain at the Club World Cup in the United States on Sunday.
Ait-Nouri feels he is in the right place to learn under the inspirational Guardiola.
"It's a big honour, I can improve a lot with him," said Ait-Nouri. "We saw in the last few years he makes a lot of things. He wins every time with this team.
"He's the best manager and I'm very happy to work with him. For sure I will improve my football."

Sancho set for Man Utd exit
17:44 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneJadon Sancho appears to be closing in on a Manchester United exit.
According to reports in Turkey, the winger has agreed a salary of €10 million (£8.5m) per season with Fenerbahce - of course managed by ex-Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho's side.
All that remains is for the two clubs to reach an agreement on a transfer fee and it's understood that 'serious progress' has been made on that front.

Brentford make Mbeumo demands clear after Man Utd launch fresh bid
17:24 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneBryan Mbeumo's move to Manchester United is edging closer after the club submitted a second bid worth around £60million for the Brentford forward.
Mbeumo has long been linked with a move to United, with the Cameroonian favouring Ruben Amorim's side over a reunion with Thomas Frank at Tottenham.
United initially submitted a bid earlier this month totalling £45m plus £10m in add-ons. However, that was rejected by Brentford, who are in a strong bargaining position, with the club holding an option to extend Mbeumo's contract, which expires in June 2026, by an additional year.
United have now come back with a second offer, which is closer to Brentford's valuation. The Bees want a fee close to the £62.5m that United paid Wolves for Matheus Cunha.
Brentford are hoping to negotiate easier add-ons from United, whose latest bid is worth £55m up front with a further £5m in add-ons, before sanctioning a deal for Mbeumo.

16:44 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneIt has not been a good day on the transfer front for Newcastle.
After seeing an approach for Giorgio Scalvini rebuffed by Atalanta, they have now been knocked back by Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga.

16:04 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRob Edwards says he can't wait to get started at Middlesbrough after being appointed as Michael Carrick’s successor.
"It's a real privilege to be given the opportunity to be head coach of this great football club," Edwards told the club website,” he said.
"It's something that's not lost on me, how big this is, how important this is, and what it means to people. There is an amazing fanbase."
"It felt instantly that this was right for me and it got me excited. If I was going to come back in, I wanted to come back in at a place where we had a chance, and we have a really good chance here.

15:18 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneKota Takai may be a relative unknown to Tottenham fans, but the 20-year-old, set to join in a £5million deal from Kawasaki Frontale, has always known this day would come - the day he became the record J-League sale for a Japanese player.
Confident without being arrogant, centre-back Takai has been targeting a move to Europe for many years.
On Kawasaki Frontale's website in 2023, he stated that his main ambition was to speak English fluently. His footballing idol? Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
He'll have his sights set on getting the better of the Dutch defender when the two teams meet next season, such is his belief that he can challenge for a regular role at Tottenham.

Chelsea stance on Wesley deal
14:56 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneFlamengo full-back Wesley is NOT on Chelsea’s radar right now.
The 21-year-old is considered one of the rising stars of Brazilian football and has plenty of suitors in Europe, including Brighton, who have reportedly already made a bid for him.
Chelsea have also drawn into the mix, particularly after the player impressed against the Blues in Flamengo’s 3-1 win over Enzo Maresca’s side at the Club World Cup last week.
However, Jorge Nicola insists reports linking Wesley with a move to Stamford Bridge are wide of the mark.
Nicola said: “Just to clarify something, many people said that after the match against Chelsea the English club would also join the fight to sign Wesley. That’s not true.
“Wesley is well-regarded at Chelsea; he played well despite the goal. Despite this mistake, the evaluation was positive.
“But Chelsea is not thinking about signing him because they already have at least two players with a great future for the position.”

14:34 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneNow, here's a name you probably haven't heard in a while...Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Since leaving Liverpool in summer 2023 the midfielder has been in Turkey with Besiktas, although his time there has been far from smooth and is now being offered an escape route.
According to reports in the Turkish media, Besiktas are again looking to offload the former Arsenal and Liverpool player after failing to sell him last summer.
In addition, it is claimed that Burnley have been offered the chance to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain but the Premier League newboys are only prepared to take him on a free transfer.

13:44 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAtalanta have reportedly made it clear to Newcastle that defender Giorgio Scalvini is not for sale.
The 21-year-old emerged as a target for the Premier League side last week amid claims of them weighing up a bid in the region of €40m-€50m (£34m-£42m).

The versatile defender’s departure from Anfield was confirmed on Monday as he joined Championship side West Brom for an undisclosed fee believed to be £3million including add-ons, signing a three-year contract at The Hawthorns.
That move officially ended Phillips’ nine-year association with Liverpool, whom he joined from Bolton in 2016 and went on to represent 29 times at senior level across all competitions, though not since January 2023.
Despite not featuring regularly during his near-decade at Liverpool, the club clearly had a huge impact on Phillips as he paid heartfelt tribute on social media following confirmation of his switch to West Brom.

Liverpool held shock talks with De Bruyne
12:54 , Matt VerriKevin De Bruyne held talks about a surprise move to Liverpool before opting to sign for Napoli this summer.
There had been some doubt over where De Bruyne would end up, with Inter Miami initially raised as a possibility as well as a number of clubs in Saudi Arabia.
The Athletic report that even Liverpool had a conversation with De Bruyne over a shock switch to Anfield, but those did not materialise into anything serious.
Liverpool were at that point already lining up a move for Florian Wirtz, who they have now signed in a £116m deal.
They were also considering Rayan Cherki, since signed by City from Lyon as they look to fill the void left by De Bruyne.
Reports claim that De Bruyne did not have any interest in a squad role and so Liverpool were unlikely to be an appealing option.

12:33 , Matt VerriManchester United are said to have little interest in pursuing a move for Christopher Nkunku.

Latest on Garnacho-Nkunku swap
11:23 , Matt VerriChelsea and Manchester United are considering a potential swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho.
Both players are expected to leave their respective clubs in the current transfer window and Standard Sport understands that Chelsea and United are currently exploring the logistics of a possible move that would see them head in opposite directions this summer.
Nkunku’s future at Stamford Bridge has long been subject to doubt after he started only nine Premier League matches under Enzo Maresca this season, scoring three goals.
The French international was a regular for Chelsea in the domestic cups and Conference League, notching 14 times in 43 total appearances across all competitions, though missed the semi-finals of the Conference League through injury and was an unused substitute in the final.
Bayern Munich were believed to be long-term suitors for Nkunku, with Juventus among the many other clubs linked with his signature to date.
United were also said to be considering an approach for the former RB Leipzig forward last summer, though are not believed to have formalised their interest at that stage.

Tottenham looked at Eze last summer but never submitted a firm bid according to Palace chairman Steve Parish. They now, however, look set to return for the England international, with Frank keen to make a statement of intent after arriving from Brentford.
Spurs are in the market for a winger this summer, with Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo on their list of attacking options.
The Europa League winners have, however, been touted a fee in the region of £70m for Semenyo, with Bournemouth keen not to lose any more key players, while Mbeumo favours a move to Manchester United, who submitted a second bid of around £60m for the Brentford forward on Monday night.

“When Yamal and Raphinha don't play, the team's level drops. There are several criteria. First, the player must believe in the project. Nico [Williams] and other players show a desire to come. If the circumstances are right, we'll try.
"To sign a player, you have to follow the right steps. In this case, everything is very clear. He has a [release] clause. Then we'll see how we can make what the player and the club want to happen.
"It's nice that [Yamal] is Nico's friend, but this isn't a club of friends. We come here to work and try to win. We already had Nico in our sights last summer; he's a name we've always had in mind. If they get along well, all the better."

"Does it make sense to spend £30, 40, 50 million on a 28 or 30-year-old signing? Not really.
"Let's calculate it. You sign a 28 or 30-year-old with a five-year contract. You spend £50m more on the transfer fee, an average of £15m per year multiplied by five.
"That's £65m plus the £50m transfer fee equals £115m, plus the agents' fees. The whole operation costs you around £130m."

On Marc Andre Ter Stegen: “I don't need to speak with Ter Stegen. My job is to build the best possible squad for the coach, not deciding who plays. No contract guarantees anyone a starting spot. It's the coach who makes those decisions.”
