Arsenal higher-ups, though, are not thought to be worried about losing him. Rather, they are confident he will sign a new deal this summer, incentivised with a sizeable pay rise.

Chelsea and Liverpool fight for Ekitike

Both Chelsea and Liverpool hold an interest in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

The player withdrew from France’s U21 squad for this summer's European Championships, leading some to believe that he was making time to join Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign, but the French Football Federation revealed that he is dealing with back pain.

They said in a statement: "Hugo Ekitiké arrived at the pre-season camp with back pain, which he sustained during the final stages of the season with his club.

"Despite treatment by the medical staff, he will not be fit for the start of the tournament due to the evolution of his pain."

The Frenchman scored 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Mbeumo's Newcastle move breaks down over wage demands

Bryan Mbeumo made headlines last night as The Athletic reported he had chosen Manchester United as his next club, but new reports have emerged as to why that is.

He is thought to be a boyhood United fan, but there was a more pragmatic reason for his decision to move to the Northwest over the Northeast, according to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder.

Newcastle were also in talks with the player and had entered into talks with his representatives, but pulled out of the deal after being told Mbeumo wanted to quadruple his Brentford wage package, set at £45,000 per week.

That would have set his salary at £180,000 per week, a significant increase on the club’s next top earners in Anthony Gordon, Joelinton, and Bruno Guimaraes, thought to be on a weekly wage in the region of £150,000.

United, though, have reached an agreement with the player on personal terms and are expected to begin negotiations with Brentford shortly. for what they consider to be a statement signing.

Arsenal and Tottenham were also in the running for his signature.

Liverpool prep fresh Wirtz offer

Liverpool are refusing to give up in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz.

They have already seen two bids rejected, according to reports. Both would have marked club-record fees for the Reds but fell short of the German side’s £126m asking price.

Reports from German news site Bild claim that Leverkusen higher-ups are confident the deal will be completed. The transfer fee is the last remaining obstacle.

It has also emerged that the Reds could offer a player to sweeten the deal, with Harvey Elliott and Jarrell Quansah both thought to be viable choices.

Ait-Nouri quizzed on Man City links

As reported earlier, Manchester City are pursuing a deal for Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, with a move expected to happen soon.

Pep Guardiola is known to want to significantly bolster his full-back options this summer and the Wolves star has been identified.

That said, Ait-Nouri is not thinking too much about his future at the moment as his full focus is on Algeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Rwanda and Sweden.

Spotted at an airport in Algeria today, Ait-Nouri was asked about the rumours involving him and Man City.

Via a translation on X, he said: “For the moment, I’m not focusing on that, we have two important matches with the national team. We’ll see what happens next.”

Dario Essugo details

Chelsea have officially welcomed Dario Essugo to the club.

The Blues agreed a double deal with Sporting CP back in March to sign the highly-rated midfielder as well as his teammate Geovany Quenda.

In fact, it was Sporting, who announced in a statement to the markets that the transfer of both players was worth a total of just under €74.5million (£62.4m).

Described as “predominately a holding midfielder, but can operate as a more conventional No.8, too”, it remains to be seen if Essugo is part of Enzo Maresca’s plans for this summer’s Club World Cup tournament.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has already warned Manchester United that any deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer will not be cheap.

Chelsea and Liverpool appear to have been given a cleat path to battle it out for the signing of Hugo Ekitike.

The Eintracht Frankfurt striker is being heavily linked with an £80m switch to the Premier League and his summer has just opened up following a big announcement.

Guardiola confirms double transfer decision

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed Ederson and Stefan Ortega will be his two goalkeeping options next season.

Kimmich reacts to Wirtz transfer decision

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has had his say on Florian Wirtz’s decision to snub a move to the Allianz Arena in favour of a reported switch to Liverpool.

Kimmich was speaking at a news conference ahead of Germany’s Nations League semi-final showdown against Portugal later this week.

A translation of his response reads: “He will have his reasons for making this decision. I hope it's the right path for him.

The deals prolongs his stay at Atletico until June 2027.

Partey contract preference revealed amid Barcelona interest

Thomas Partey wants to sign a new contract with Arsenal, despite interest from Barcelona, writes Simon Collings.

Partey’s deal is due to expire at the end of this month and he is yet to agree fresh terms.

The midfielder is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Barcelona and sides in Saudi Arabia. Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also monitoring Partey’s situation.

But Standard Sport understands that Partey’s current preference would be to sign a new contract at Arsenal.

Brentford have signed 18-year-old attacker Romelle Donovan on a permanent deal from Birmingham, writes Dom Smith.

The move comes after a string of excellent performances on loan with the Bees’ B team since joining in January.

Arsenal are interested in a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, reports claim.

The Cameroon international has a long list of suitors after another stellar campaign in west London, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle all linked.

However, Arsenal are also in the running for Mbeumo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old is entering into the final 12 months of his contract at Brentford, where he scored 20 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions this season.

Bees boss Thomas Frank recently warned again that any club hoping to sign Mbeumo this summer would have to pay a huge price.

Al-Nassr present Cristiano Ronaldo contract plan

Al-Nassr are trying to get Cristiano Ronaldo to commit his future to the club.

The Portuguese superstar’s current lucrative contract in Saudi Arabia is due to expire at the end of June and there has been plenty of speculation over a potential move away ahead of the Club World Cup.

However, Al-Nassr don’t want to lose Ronaldo, who turned 40 earlier this year, and Fabrizio Romano reports this morning that they are set to present their plan to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner imminently as they try to convince him to sign an extension.

Part of that bid seems to be a new transfer push, with Liverpool’s Luis Diaz said to be among their top targets, along with Feyenoord defender David Hancko.

Chelsea in talks over £50m Jamie Gittens deal

We just mentioned Chelsea’s interest in Jamie Gittens and it seems that things are now quickly moving forward on that front.

The Telegraph have reported in the last few minutes that talks are underway with Borussia Dortmund for the 20-year-old English winger over a deal that could be worth £50m.

Interestingly, Gittens spent time in the Chelsea academy as a youngster between spells at Reading and later came through at Manchester City before moving to Germany in 2020, going on to make 106 appearances for Dortmund.

This season, he has scored 12 goals in 48 appearances and was subject to a transfer enquiry from Chelsea in January.

Gittens is an England Under-21 international whom many are surprised has not yet broken into the senior squad under former BVB boss Thomas Tuchel.

There is plenty going on at Chelsea at the moment it seems with Liam Delap poised to complete his £30m move from Ipswich today.

They are also rumoured to be leading Liverpool in the battle for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike and are said to be considering a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, amid more links to Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and Manchester United duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Liverpool are said to remain confident of sealing a huge deal for Florian Wirtz soon.

Earlier we brought you those fresh reports from Germany suggesting that Bayer Leverkusen now want to include either Jarell Quansah or Harvey Elliott as part of the deal after not accepting a second bid for their star forward totalling up to £109m.

However, it doesn’t look to be a significant hurdle to an agreement, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a new round of talks will take place this week.

There is expected to be one new signing through the door at Chelsea - maybe as soon as today - in Liam Delap.

The Blues saw off stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton in the race for the Ipswich striker, who has a £30m release clause at Portman Road following the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the Premier League.

The Premier League champions are wasting no time this summer and have been busily trying to complete a swift and blockbuster deal for the German forward after already sealing the £29.5m signing of his Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong to replace the Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool submitted a second offer for Wirtz on Friday worth up to £109m, though it was not accepted and negotiations are continuing.

The Caoimhin Kelleher story is developing quickly this afternoon after news emerged that Bayer Leverkusen had agreed to sign current Bees No1 Flekken for €10m (£8.4m).

Man Utd confirm Matheus Cunha deal

He was spotted outside The Lowry Hotel in Manchester earlier today and Matheus Cunha’s move to United has now been officially confirmed.

The Red Devils just announced in a statement that they have reached an agreement with Wolves to sign the Brazilian forward, who is believed to have penned a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

United triggered the £62.5m release clause in a four-and-a-half year contract extension only signed by Cunha at Molineux back in February, agreeing to Wolves’ demands that it be paid in three instalments over the next two seasons as per that deal, rather than spread over five years.

United said the transfer would be subject to visa and registration.

The Brazilian forward has been pictured outside the city’s Lowry Hotel this morning as he looks to complete a high-profile switch to Old Trafford.

The previously unthinkable prospect of the influential captain potentially leaving Old Trafford this summer now looks to be a real possibility after it emerged on Friday before their final post-season friendly in Hong Kong that he was “seriously considering” a lucrative final offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal rumoured to be worth £180m over three years plus a £100m transfer fee.

In what will be considered quite a transfer coup at Stamford Bridge, the Ipswich striker has chosen the Conference League winners despite plenty of rival interest from the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Florian Wirtz to Liverpool latest

Liverpool are expected to swiftly wrap up the signing of Florian Wirtz.

Arne Slot’s reigning Premier League champions have been chasing a blockbuster deal for the highly-rated German forward since agreeing a £29.5m switch for his Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong, which was officially announced on Friday.

Liverpool have made two bids for Wirtz so far, the second of which came on Friday and was said to total up to £109m.

According to Florian Plettenberg, that latest offer was not accepted by Leverkusen, who remain in negotiations with the Reds and could still get a player in return for Wirtz in part-exchange.

However, he says an agreement is now considered just days away, with Wirtz with the Germany squad as he waits to get permission to undergo a medical with Liverpool.

Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal update

Arsenal are clearly ramping up their move to sign Benjamin Sesko with the early summer transfer window now open for business.

The Slovenian striker has long been heavily linked with a high-profile switch to north London, though it appeared for quite a while like prolific Sporting Lisbon frontman Viktor Gyokeres had replaced him as their No1 striker target.

However, reports in recent days suggest that Sesko - said to be the preferred option of manager Mikel Arteta - has now been chosen as Arsenal’s priority option, with new sporting director Andrea Berta said to have held “secret talks” over a deal with RB Leipzig chief Marcel Schafer.

Plymouth have announced boss Miron Muslic has left the club to take over at German second-tier side Schalke.

Argyle "reluctantly allowed" Muslic to begin talks to leave earlier this week and the manager has now taken over the seven-time German champions, who were relegated two years ago.

Muslic replaced Wayne Rooney at Home Park in January but could not save Plymouth from suffering relegation to League One.

Rashford ready to take pay cut to join Barcelona

More details have emerged from Barcelona's meeting with Marcus Rashford representatives earlier this week.

Sport journalist Toni Juanmarti, who broke the news of the meeting yesterday, reports today that Rashford is willing to accept a pay cut to join Barcelona on a straight loan deal.

Rashford currently earns more than £300,000 a week at Manchester United, who would want a loan fee to part ways with their former talisman.

The report adds that Barcelona see signing Rashford on those terms as as "a very low-risk operation", which has seen the player move ahead of Luis Diaz on the list of transfer priorities.

Spurs confirm five exits as Danso joins permanently

Tottenham have confirmed the exits of Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon, Alfie Whiteman and Timo Werner.

Spurs have also confirmed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s loan move to Marseille has been made permanent, understood to be for a fee of around £17m.

Kevin Danso, who joined Spurs on loan from Lens in January, has also made his move permanent for around £21m.

Ronaldo uncertainty continues

Cristiano Ronaldo's exit from Al-Nassr was expected to be announced this week, but there are now reports he could stay at the club.

Ronaldo looked set to leave Saudi Arabia after two and a half years, 99 goals and no major trophies. He has been linked with moves to MLS, Brazil, Turkey and former club Sporting Lisbon.

But FIFA president Gianni Infantino is desperate to have him involved in the Club World Cup, which launches a newly expanded version in two weeks' time.

That left the door open for fellow Saudi side Al-Hilal, who are in the Club World Cup, to agree a short-term contract with Ronaldo.

But Foot Mercato now report that Ronaldo could agree a new deal with Al Nassr.

Brentford reject Leverkusen's Flekken bid

Brentford have rejected Bayer Leverkusen’s opening bid, worth £7.6m, for Mark Flekken.

The Athletic report that negotiations are ongoing and there is a belief a deal will be struck.

Brentford are expected to make a move for Caoimhin Kelleher as his replacement.

Fernandes exit should see Mainoo stay put

Bruno Fernandes leaving Manchester United means Kobbie Mainoo stays put this summer, despite Ruben Amorim not being wholly convinced by the player.

Fernandes is increasingly likely to move to Saudi Arabia in an £80million deal, and the club knows Mainoo also departing could lead to, as the I Paper put it, "all-out rebellion."

Mainoo is a popular figure among fans, but Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the English midfielder. His sale would go down as 'pure profit' for a club who are in need of a cash injection.

Amorim wants his players to be all action and high intensity, two attributes the manager fears Mainoo does not possess. That has led to United being reluctantly open to offers, though Fernandes' exit should shut that door.
